They were very curious about the Navajo code talkers of World War Two. Some were even inspired to do additional reading on their own about modern Native Americans, such as the young adult novel about basketball called \"Rez Ball.\"\r\n\r\nThe students wrote robust essays about the novel, exploring the ironies in the Navajos having been stripped of their native tongue through Missions Schools, but then asked to use this very language to serve a nation that had taken their native lands.\r\n\r\nI will teach this book again this year, thanks to you!
