During Autism Awareness Week were able to utilize our new books featuring kindness, compassion and friendship to illustrate ways we can be kind to each other, even though we may have differences. These books perfectly illustrated that we are all different and unique in our own way. Our differences are what make us interesting and the world would be so boring if we didn't all have different view points. Our uniqueness is what makes us special. An extra special things about these books is they will live in our library for years to come, bring kindness and compassion to future students as well!\r\n\r\nOur students also wrote down on slips of papers ways they are different and how we can be kind and compassion and understanding of people that are different for us. We taped them to the windows for all to see what other ways their fellow students are unique and act in kind ways. It made a beautiful stained glass effect on the windows and made the library look so colorful. \r\n\r\nThis compassion project has made a difference in our school community. I have witnessed students helping each other select books, work on school projects together and discussing kind things others have done for them and ways they have been kind to someone else! It has really helped our students focus on the benefits of compassion and kind, not only for themselves, but for our school culture and community as well.
