They are making connections between the books they're reading at school, what they're hearing at home, and various cultural experiences. \r\n\r\nOne student in particular has really taken to learning about Indigenous people, specifically the Wampanoag and the impact the Pilgrims made on their land and community. The addition of fidget toys, focus tools, snacks, a mini fridge, an electric kettle and cleaning supplies has made a huge difference in how I support students with high needs, many of whom come from high trauma backgrounds.\r\n\r\nStudents light up every time they see the new fidget tools. One student who has trouble staying regulated during sessions now instinctively reaches for a sensory item to calm down and stay present while we talk. These tools help them engage more fully in our sessions and carry that focus into their classrooms.\r\n\r\nThe mini fridge and snacks have been a quiet but powerful addition. One student who often comes to school without breakfast now knows they can grab a granola bar and focus better on their work. Offering a cup of tea or a snack has become a small but meaningful ritual that helps students feel seen and ready to participate.\r\n\r\nWe're currently working on emotional regulation strategies—using our tools and snacks as part of the routine that teaches kids how to self-soothe and stay grounded. Next we'll be helping students practice these skills independently throughout the day, with the therapy room as a safe haven when they need it.\r\n\r\nThanks for helping me create a space where students feel safe, seen and supported. One standout moment was during a collaborative movement station activity where students rotated between using the ribbon wavers, glider airplanes, and punch balloons. It was amazing to see students with a range of motor abilities fully engaged—whether they were waving ribbons with pride, launching foam rockets, or excitedly punching balloons into the air. The lightweight volleyballs have been especially helpful for practicing volleyball skills in a way that's accessible and confidence-building.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their eyes lit up! There was an immediate buzz of excitement—especially around the fidgety balls and no-spill bubbles, which created a calm, focused energy for students who sometimes need sensory input to regulate. For many of them, it didn't feel like \"exercise\"—it felt like play, and that's where real engagement began. These tools have truly opened up new ways for my students to move, play, and connect with each other.","fullyFundedDate":1746787104275,"projectUrl":"project/adapted-pe-equipment-for-students-with-d/9176324/","projectTitle":"Adapted PE Equipment for Students With Disabilities!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kelder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1258847_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1450378766937","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-kelder"},{"teacherId":9584303,"projectId":9039703,"letterContent":"The books I purchased complement the \"Art in Action\" program that we have been using in our classrooms. \"Art in Action\" encourages the students to learn about famous artists and then use the techniques to create art pieces.
