This year has been full of uncertainty and fear for my students and what I thought would be beneficial for grief ended up being coping equipment for my students. My student have learned to manage their anxiety and fear along with grief by expressing themselves through painting, gardening, and using their imaginations. \r\n\r\nMy student's first reaction was excitement. Gardening is not an activity commonly utilized in the school setting so when they were provided with the tools to dedicate their time and energy to, they were over the moon. Some felt excitement to learn responsibility, other were excited to share with their families to watch the loved of their loved one continue growing through this plan. My students were also very excited to play with play-doh as we spoke about their grief and anxiety about losing family. We utilized the wooden boxes to paint on or draw on as a \"memory\" or \"worry\" box. Student were able to be create and create a safe box to fill with important keepsakes of their loved ones or \"worry\" notes their parents could check on later in the day and create open dialogue for them.\r\n\r\nMy homeless student's were beyond grateful to receive deodorant, blankets, ponchos for the rain, hair ties, body wash, and toothbrushes. The simple things that we take for granted daily brought them so much joy. They were able to take home toothbrushes to ensure their family also had enough to get through the following weeks.","fullyFundedDate":1733087528005,"projectUrl":"project/encourage-our-homeless-students-to-come/8954470/","projectTitle":"Encourage Our Homeless Students to Come to School!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aldas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9843002_orig.jpg?crop=670,670,x0,y176&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732057985941","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9843002"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107264","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":76,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":107264,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rafer Johnson Children's Center Annex on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rafer Johnson Children's Center Annex","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/bakersfield-city-school-district/rafer-johnson-children-s-center-annex/107264"}
