I just want to give a little insight on how these graphing calculators are helping our students. As I realized we have access to computers as tools, I had a deeper understanding that the way our classrooms run makes it hard to stop in the middle of our thinking to open our laptops and use Desmos, Amplify, etc. It's also hard to teach our students to be prepared for college prep. Realistically, we also have to get them prepared for testing. Even if I think testing doesn't entirely display students' understanding, in this academic climate it is still a big component of students' lives. Graphing calculators used in this way are upmost importance when its comes to doing my best to support my students success. What's really exciting for my students is that they can finally use these technology tools to find direct answers, graph equations easily, and plug into built-in formulas on the calculators to help them get to their findings. Instead of doing it by hand all the time and being stuck on a small procedure, they can actually use more time on the concept. We have been using it everyday for 3 weeks now and it's hard to imagine how we got by before. The table saw is probably the most used tool in our shop and it always felt like we were short-changing our students by not allowing them to make their own cuts on our old saw. Now they can feel like they have complete ownership of the end results of their projects, and they can leave the shop course knowing how to safely and confidently use this essential tool. \r\n\r\nI will continue to prioritize safety above all else and make sure that students do not assume there will be safety features on other saws they might use.
