Our middle school students, who have moderate to severe learning and special needs, have been actively using these instruments as part of our music and sensory-based learning activities. We have incorporated the Boomwhackers into structured rhythm exercises, call-and-response activities, and group music-making experiences that support communication, motor skills, and social interaction. One especially meaningful moment was watching students work together to create simple patterns and celebrate each other's successes, fostering both confidence and collaboration.\r\nWhen the students first saw the Boomwhackers, their reactions were filled with excitement and curiosity. Many were eager to explore the different colors and sounds, and the hands-on nature of the instruments immediately captured their attention. For several students, the Boomwhackers provided an accessible and engaging way to participate in music-making, allowing them to express themselves in ways that are not always possible through traditional academic tasks.\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue building on these experiences by using the Boomwhackers to support ongoing lessons in rhythm, sequencing, and cooperative learning. Students will practice following visual and auditory cues, taking turns, and working as part of a group to create music together. Your generosity has given our students meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and grow, and we are truly grateful for the positive impact you have made in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1760693692207,"projectUrl":"project/every-mind-deserves-a-melody-played-in/9652883/","projectTitle":"Every Mind Deserves a Melody, Played in Living Color","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Burke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9370708"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_72315","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1165,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":59,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.5,"schoolId":72315,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Villegas Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Villegas Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/alvord-unified-school-district/villegas-middle-school/72315"}
