They were especially fascinated by the thin-tipped markers; they felt like big kid pens, which immediately prompted them to slow down and focus on their grip. Prior to receiving the materials, several students struggled with using a \"fisted\" grip, but are now using the correct \"tripod\" grip thanks to the thin markers. \r\n\r\nThe lined whiteboards and fine-tipped markers have become the most reached-for tools in our daily phonics lessons. During our UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) lessons, the visual guides on the boards have been a game-changer.\r\nInstead of struggling to float letters in white space, my students are now using the lines to anchor their handwriting. We recently used them to practice \"heart words\" (irregular high-frequency words). Watching a student successfully navigate the \"tail\" of a lowercase 'g' exactly where it belongs on the lineāand seeing their face light up when they realize their penmanship is improving. \r\n\r\nBeyond literacy, we are also introducing these boards into our math lessons next week, where students will use them to draw base ten blocks and show their work in real time. Your gift isn't just a whiteboard, it's a platform for every student to participate loudly and clearly every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1769177631452,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-get-the-right-materials-to-impro/9762465/","projectTitle":"Help Us Get the Right Materials to Improve Our Writing!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Trent","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6897358_orig.jpg?crop=2448,2448,x0,y130&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1571980866890","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6897358"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30570","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":442,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":42,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"22.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.8,"schoolId":30570,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about William F Elliott Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"William F Elliott Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/abc-unified-school-district/william-f-elliott-elementary-school/30570"}
