These new texts helped students develop critical skills such as close reading, analyzing author's purpose, recognizing themes, and drawing evidence-based conclusions. They learned how to examine complex topics like prejudice, resilience, and moral responsibility in a thoughtful and respectful way.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active and engaging. Students don't just read the words on a page — they annotate, discuss, question, and connect the text to both history and their own lives. Small-group discussions, reflective journaling, and collaborative conversations allow every student to find their voice and feel safe sharing their thoughts.\r\n\r\nSeveral students, including those who are typically quiet or hesitant readers, have connected deeply with Night. I've watched students who rarely speak in class lead thoughtful discussions, ask meaningful questions, and express emotional maturity as they processed Eliezer's story. These books didn't just improve reading skills — they helped shape kinder, more compassionate young people.\r\n\r\nYour generosity gave our students more than books; you gave them perspective, empathy, and a stronger voice. Thank you for making this learning possible.","fullyFundedDate":1760666384340,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-the-holocaust-to-life-with-nig/9462749/","projectTitle":"Bringing the Holocaust to Life with \"Night\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McLelland","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4443576_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752518858105","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4443576"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53088","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1092,"numTeachers":82,"percentFrplEligible":81,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":55,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":47.1,"schoolId":53088,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Arkansas High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Arkansas High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/texarkana-arkansas-school-district-7/arkansas-senior-high-school/53088"}
