The fourth and fifth graders in my after school club - The Young Entrepreneurs Club - put all of the supplies to great use! \r\n\r\nEach student in the club, created their own business and products to sell at out annual school market. The students did all of the work of producing, marketing, and selling on market day. Our market was a HUGE success, and the students learn so much about being an entrepreneur! \r\n\r\nBecause of your generous donations, we had greater profits, and we were able to make a few donations. The students chose to donate to Heifer International, and we were able to purchase many animals to give to those in need. We also bought a book about perseverance, for every classroom in our school. This hands-on learning gave them the opportunity to participate in all the steps involved in starting a business - creating a business plan, ordering supplies, producing a product, marketing, selling, and all the paperwork that goes along with a business! \r\nTheir businesses were very successful, and because of this, they were able to also donate to others. The students in my Young Entrepreneurs Club used the supplies from this project to create products to sell. They learned so much about being an entrepreneur through this process. Then they created marketing for their products. They made posters to hang in the school, posts for our school's Facebook page, and recorded video commercials. Then, they sold their items every morning before school. \r\n\r\nThe success of their business was exceptional! They raised enough money to buy many items on the animal shelter's wish list and give a donation to the shelter's medical fund. They also made dog toys out of t-shirts to give to the animals at the shelter. I teach 3 sections of 5th grade science at my school. My students are so eager to learn more about science, but providing hands-on activities and experiments requires a lot of materials. I wouldn't be able to provide as many opportunities for my students without these donations. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to receive these materials. They love learning how to use the various lab tools and feel like real scientists. The students are so engaged in the learning when we have lab days. They are learning so much. My students were also very excited to add the books about scientists to our collection. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donations. They are a tremendous blessing and the students were thrilled when they first saw them. I opened the boxes at the end of the school day as students had been asking me what was inside all day. At first, students weren't sure what they were since they were shrink wrapped. As soon as I opened the plastic, though, they got really excited. Our room received new chairs at the end of last year, and the chairs are very hard plastic. These cushions will alleviate much of the wiggling and getting up and down that students have been doing.\r\n\r\nEach student has a colored seat cover on their chair, so the variety of colors that the seat cushions came in were easy to match to the seat cushions! The students quickly found the color cushion they needed and tried it out! I believe it is so important for students to have the opportunity to express their creative side. These supplies have and will help to meet that need. Our art supplies are much more organized this year, thanks to this project. The students are able to find what they need, easily. \r\n\r\nOne of the highlights of our classroom is our \"Achieving Goals\" display. When a student meets their reading goal, their picture goes on the display. At the end of the quarter, they are able to keep the photo as a reminder of their achievement. They love it! \r\n\r\nUnfortunately, our town was hit by a devastating tornado last year, and we were not able to have school the last week of the year. We were planning to do our final art project, with the frames, during that week.
