The new books introduced to our students have sparked an excitement for reading that is visible every day. Students are not only excited to dive into their books during our twenty-minute daily reading time, but they are also bringing their books outside to the playground, continuing their reading during recess. This shift shows a deeper connection to the stories and characters, as many of them are now seeing reading as an enjoyable activity that extends beyond the classroom. For many of our students, the ability to select books that speak to their interests has helped build their confidence as readers, allowing them to strengthen their comprehension and critical thinking skills as they analyze and reflect on what they read. \r\n Some students, especially those who have previously struggled with finding books that captivated their attention or have difficulty reading, are particularly thriving. The new texts provide a range of diverse genres and topics, catering to a variety of reading levels and personal interests. These books have allowed students to take ownership of their reading journeys, whether they're devouring a new mystery novel, exploring the world of fantasy, science, or fiction. Watching their faces light up as I opened the boxes of new books brought joy to our classroom. The receiving of new books has sparked curiosity and enthusiasm in ways I hadn't anticipated. The shift in classroom culture has been remarkable—reading is no longer seen as a task, but as a privilege and an adventure. The impact of these books is palpable, as students are now more engaged and enthusiastic about reading both in and outside of the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1736808204426,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-our-world/9048485/","projectTitle":"Exploring Our World","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gayden","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9419628_orig.jpg?crop=1286,1286,x0,y17&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736549580842","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9419628"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54375","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":172,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":72,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":55.3,"schoolId":54375,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harris Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harris Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/pulaski-county-special-school-district/harris-elementary-health-science-school/54375"}
