Your support made it possible for my students to create knotted felt blankets for members of our local homeless community. It is an experience that has deeply impacted both their hearts and their learning.\r\n\r\nThis project became more than a craft. It became an opportunity for students to truly understand empathy. Through researching the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and hearing firsthand accounts from guest speakers at local shelters, students began to see the world through a new lens. They asked thoughtful questions, reflected deeply, and engaged in meaningful discussions about compassion and service.\r\n\r\nAs they worked in teams to design, cut, and knot each blanket, I watched collaboration and leadership naturally unfold. Students encouraged one another, paid attention to craftsmanship, and took pride in knowing their work would directly comfort someone in need. Every knot tied represented care, intention, and a growing awareness of their ability to make a difference.\r\n\r\nThe most powerful moment came when students delivered the blankets to our local shelter. Seeing the gratitude on the faces of those receiving them transformed this project into something unforgettable. It gave students a tangible understanding that their actions matter and that kindness is not abstract, but active and impactful.\r\n\r\nWe measured success not just in the number of blankets created, but in the growth of compassion we witnessed through reflective journals, discussions, presentations, and one-on-one conversations. Students expressed a deeper understanding of service, privilege, and community responsibility. Many shared that this experience changed how they see others and how they want to show up in the world.\r\n\r\nYour generosity provided more than materials. You helped nurture empathy, teamwork, and civic responsibility. You helped shape young people who now better understand the importance of caring for others.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing not only in my classroom, but in the heart of our community.\r\n\r\nWith sincere gratitude,\r\nJessi Philpott\r\nFuture School of Fort Smith","fullyFundedDate":1728435283473,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-warmth-and-compassion-knotted/8457665/","projectTitle":"Bringing Warmth and Compassion: Knotted Felt Blankets for the Homeless","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jessi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6335046_orig.jpg?crop=908,908,x0,y57&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1563918083709","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6335046"},{"teacherId":6335046,"projectId":9200198,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our classroom has been bursting with color, creativity, and joyful experimentation.\r\n\r\nMy students already bring incredible enthusiasm and imagination into the art room, but the painting supplies you funded (gouache paints, water wells, and wet palettes, brushes) have elevated their experiences in powerful ways. These materials allowed us to explore paint across multiple exciting projects, including rock painting using the brushes and water wells, window painting, pumpkin painting, and even creating homemade rainbow scratchboards using the gouache.\r\n\r\nEach project opened new doors for learning and expression. During rock painting, students focused on composition and surface texture, transforming ordinary stones into vibrant works of art. Window painting gave them the opportunity to think on a larger scale while considering transparency, layering, and bold color choices. Pumpkin painting encouraged creative problem-solving as they adapted their designs to curved, uneven surfaces. Our homemade rainbow scratchboards were a class favorite. Students applied rich layers of color theory knowledge before scratching intricate designs to reveal brilliant contrasts underneath.\r\n\r\nThroughout these experiences, students strengthened their understanding of color relationships, brush control, and visual balance. They experimented confidently with blending, layering, and mark-making techniques. Just as importantly, they built critical-thinking skills by adjusting their plans when materials behaved differently than expected.\r\n\r\nAs a Title I school, access to high-quality art supplies makes a meaningful difference. These materials ensured that every student (regardless of background or prior experience) had the opportunity to fully participate, experiment, and succeed. I watched hesitant students grow braver with each brushstroke and confident students push themselves even further creatively.\r\n\r\nYour support did more than provide paint. You helped create a space where students feel empowered to explore, take risks, and express their unique perspectives. You helped turn their ideas into colorful, tangible works of art and in the process, you strengthened their creative confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and for making these vibrant learning experiences possible.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt gratitude,\r\nJessi Philpott\r\nFuture School of Fort Smith","fullyFundedDate":1748445044650,"projectUrl":"project/paint-for-projects/9200198/","projectTitle":"Paint for Projects","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jessi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6335046_orig.jpg?crop=908,908,x0,y57&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1563918083709","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6335046"},{"teacherId":6335046,"projectId":9964849,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students are experiencing the power of creating in three dimensions in ways that simply would not be possible without your support.\r\n\r\nMy students are incredibly creative and deeply passionate about the arts. They come into class eager to build, experiment, and bring their ideas to life. As a Title I school, however, many of them do not have access to art supplies at home. The materials you provided (foam clay, cutting tools, Elmer's glue, and hot glue guns) have made equitable, hands-on learning possible for every single student.\r\n\r\nWith these tools, students are not just \"making projects,\" they are applying the elements and principles of design in tangible, meaningful ways. They are exploring form, texture, and space as they construct sculptures. They are considering balance, proportion, emphasis, and unity as they revise and refine their work. Concepts that once felt abstract on paper now make sense because they can hold them in their hands.\r\n\r\nBeyond the artistic skills, I am seeing growth in craftsmanship, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving. Students are collaborating, sharing materials responsibly, and helping one another troubleshoot structural challenges. They are learning to take creative risks in a safe, supported environment. Most importantly, they are building confidence and seeing an idea move from imagination to finished form is incredibly empowering.\r\n\r\nYour support is more than a donation of supplies. It is an investment in creativity, equity, and student voice. You have helped provide access to meaningful art experiences that many of my students would not otherwise have.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in their potential and for making three-dimensional learning possible in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude,\r\nJessi Philpott\r\nFuture School of Fort Smith","fullyFundedDate":1768585715114,"projectUrl":"project/from-flat-to-form-building-creativity-i/9964849/","projectTitle":"From Flat to Form: Building Creativity in 3D Design","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jessi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6335046_orig.jpg?crop=908,908,x0,y57&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1563918083709","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6335046"},{"teacherId":7640751,"projectId":9397269,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my immense gratitude for your contribution to my classroom. The school I work at experiences students who have had minimal access to creativity and opportunity for expression. The confidence to overcome self-doubt is one of my main focuses in the classroom and I typically do this by encouraging three-dimensional, hands on, projects. \r\nAnother obstacle I face is lack of facilities and supplies. I do not have access to a kiln and have very little storage. Attempting to use clay in spite of these setbacks led me to Polymer clay. I bake every kid's project in my own oven, off contract hours. But it has been the saving grace to the constant question \"can we use clay, Ms. Mary?\" Polymer clay is unfortunately also very expensive. \r\nThanks to your generosity, I was able to supply 2 art classes for clay projects last Fall and will be able to do so again for 3 more this Spring! It's a lot of baking I'm looking forward to, and it's when I see the most creative growth. You're helping them learn to solve problems and express themselves in a creative way, and I am so grateful to you for your help in that.
