Now, thanks to you, reading feels smoother, more focused, and more meaningful.\r\n\r\nIn our 4th-grade classroom, reading is active. Students underline powerful sentences, place sticky notes beside important details, and flip back to earlier pages to double-check their thinking. The Wit & Wisdom texts are used for close reading, discussion, and writing. We teach students how to analyze characters, determine theme, understand challenging vocabulary, and support their answers with text evidence. These are big skills that prepare them to think deeply and write clearly.\r\n\r\nWith additional books available, students can actually see the words clearly, follow along at their own pace, and reread when something doesn't make sense. That independence matters. I've noticed students participating more confidently because they can quickly find the page and point directly to the evidence they want to share. Even some of my quieter students are raising their hands more often.\r\n\r\nFor struggling readers, fewer students per book means less distraction and less frustration. For strong readers, it means more freedom to annotate and dig deeper into the text. Overall, it has created a more equitable and productive learning environment.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just add books to our shelves — it improved how my students experience reading every single day. Thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1769177952972,"projectUrl":"project/sharing-less-reading-more/10043449/","projectTitle":"Sharing Less, Reading More","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Melia Collins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8364907_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646954173780","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8364907"},{"teacherId":8364907,"projectId":9881046,"letterContent":"When the STEM boxes of materials arrived, my students were immediately excited. Even though we had already completed our unit on magnets, the new supplies sparked so much curiosity that students asked to review and explore magnet concepts again. We revisited attraction, repulsion, and magnetic strength through hands-on investigations, which deepened their understanding.\r\n\r\nI was also able to share the materials with my coworker, who teaches the same science content, allowing even more students to benefit from these resources. Next month, we will use the materials during our rocks and minerals unit, where students will observe, classify, and record properties like color and texture. These tools have and will strengthen our STEM instruction and help students learn by thinking and working like scientists.","fullyFundedDate":1764120109063,"projectUrl":"project/rockin-our-way-through-stem/9881046/","projectTitle":"Rockin’ Our Way Through STEM!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Melia Collins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8364907_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646954173780","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8364907"},{"teacherId":8364907,"projectId":9578105,"letterContent":"When our new materials arrived, my students were so excited! They couldn't wait to open each box and see all the supplies we had been wishing for. Right away, we set up our group tables with staplers and tape dispensers, and students immediately began using them to create and organize their projects independently. The new headphones have made a big difference during digital lessons—students are able to focus better and work without distractions. The lamination sheets helped me create sturdy reference cards for math and reading that students can use every day, and the magnets now proudly display their work and anchor charts on our board.\r\n\r\nThese resources have created a smoother, more engaging, and well-organized classroom environment where students feel confident and capable. They are learning to take ownership of their space and their learning, and it shows in their excitement and teamwork. Our next step is to continue using these tools to support upcoming STEM and writing projects, helping students stay organized, focused, and proud of their progress.","fullyFundedDate":1755743779488,"projectUrl":"project/staples-for-success-supplies-to-keep-us/9578105/","projectTitle":"Staples for Success: Supplies to Keep Us Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Melia Collins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8364907_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646954173780","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8364907"},{"teacherId":9613716,"projectId":9594651,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous snack donation. This new resource has been a game-changer for my classroom, especially for our students who are suffering from food insecurity. These snacks are more than just a quick bite; they are a vital resource that helps some of our most vulnerable students focus and stay engaged in their learning. We've been able to integrate them into our daily routine, particularly during our \"Think Tank\" sessions where students work in small groups to brainstorm solutions for real-world problems. For a recent project on sustainable energy, one student who normally struggles with engagement was able to contribute meaningfully to his group's presentation, all because a quick boost from the snacks gave him the energy he needed. It was a small but powerful moment that showed how much of a difference these resources can make.\r\nThe students' reactions when they first saw the snacks were priceless—their eyes lit up with both excitement and relief. One student exclaimed, \"It feels like a real-life vending machine,\" but without the cost! It created an immediate sense of gratitude and belonging.","fullyFundedDate":1755911901320,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-for-underprivileged-students/9594651/","projectTitle":"Snacks for Underprivileged Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. DeRito","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9613716_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747853398505","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9613716"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60093","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":319,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"8.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.2,"schoolId":60093,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Larkspur Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Larkspur Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/paradise-valley-unified-school-district/larkspur-elementary-school/60093"}
