Many of them have struggled with reading for years and can become discouraged when they are given texts that feel too difficult. These books give them an opportunity to experience success while still building the skills they need. I love seeing students who normally say, \"I don't like reading,\" become interested in a story, participate in a discussion, or proudly tell me about something they learned from a book. Those moments are exactly why access to engaging, appropriate texts matters so much in our classroom.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active and collaborative. We read together, take turns reading, listen to passages, discuss characters and ideas, make predictions, ask questions, and go back into the text to prove our thinking. I want my students to see reading as something they can enjoy and use to learn—not simply another assignment they have to complete.","fullyFundedDate":1773859127155,"projectUrl":"project/building-reading-skills-through-high-int/9974245/","projectTitle":"Building Reading Skills Through High-Interest Texts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8646666"},{"teacherId":8646666,"projectId":9974237,"letterContent":"When donors choose to fund books that go along with our curriculum, they are helping my students turn reading into a meaningful part of every subject. These books give students additional opportunities to build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and connect what they are learning in class to real-world topics and experiences. For many of my students, having an engaging book at an accessible reading level can make the difference between feeling frustrated and feeling successful.\r\n\r\nThese resources will especially benefit my students who are reading below grade level by providing additional practice without making learning feel like a chore. Students will be able to read, discuss, ask questions, make connections, and build confidence while reinforcing the skills and concepts taught through our curriculum. Most importantly, donors are helping create a classroom where every student has access to books that make learning more engaging, understandable, and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is much more than silently reading a book. We read together, read independently, listen to passages, discuss what we notice, stop to make predictions, ask questions, and return to the text to find evidence for our thinking. I use the books to model reading strategies and then gradually give students more responsibility as they become comfortable with the skills. Having texts that connect to our curriculum makes these lessons more meaningful and gives students a reason to want to read.","fullyFundedDate":1773882082920,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-access-to-engaging-middle-scho/9974237/","projectTitle":"Expanding Access to Engaging Middle School Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8646666"},{"teacherId":8650043,"projectId":10234621,"letterContent":"Thank you for funding my project! Mechanical pencil lead refills keep their work flowing without interruption, ensuring that learning never stops. The Kane Chronicles book set has sparked excitement for reading, inspiring even reluctant readers to dive into engaging stories.\r\n\r\nHygiene items like deodorant wipes, hand sanitizer, and hair ties help students feel comfortable and confident throughout the school day, so they can focus on learning rather than distractions. Ball pump needles keep PE and recess equipment ready, promoting teamwork, active play, and healthy habits.\r\n\r\nEach of these resources has a tangible impact: they foster creativity, independence, confidence, and a love of learning, helping students thrive in a classroom where they feel prepared, supported, and inspired every day.","fullyFundedDate":1757872598684,"projectUrl":"project/color-comfort-and-creativity-for-engag/9596558/","projectTitle":"Color, Comfort, and Creativity for Engaged Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8646666"},{"teacherId":8650043,"projectId":9249506,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the donation of the books and cushions. My students have been enjoying reading in a more comfortable setting because of these cushions.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom now looks a little different. First, we read as a class and complete our lessons as usual, then we do group work and lastly my students get free choice reading. During free choice reading, they can choose any book they want to read and sit anywhere in the room with their comfy cushion. They are truly enjoying this! Their love of reading has sky rocketed through the roof!! They now ask daily \"when is free choice reading?\" \r\n\r\nThe new books are also a hit! Many have never read these or seen these. The fact that we don't have a community library, is difficult for our students to have access to a variety of books.
