For many of my students, having an engaging book at an accessible reading level can make the difference between feeling frustrated and feeling successful.\r\n\r\nThese resources will especially benefit my students who are reading below grade level by providing additional practice without making learning feel like a chore. Students will be able to read, discuss, ask questions, make connections, and build confidence while reinforcing the skills and concepts taught through our curriculum. Most importantly, donors are helping create a classroom where every student has access to books that make learning more engaging, understandable, and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is much more than silently reading a book. We read together, read independently, listen to passages, discuss what we notice, stop to make predictions, ask questions, and return to the text to find evidence for our thinking. I use the books to model reading strategies and then gradually give students more responsibility as they become comfortable with the skills. First, we read as a class and complete our lessons as usual, then we do group work and lastly my students get free choice reading. During free choice reading, they can choose any book they want to read and sit anywhere in the room with their comfy cushion. They are truly enjoying this! Their love of reading has sky rocketed through the roof!! They now ask daily \"when is free choice reading?\" \r\n\r\nThe new books are also a hit! Many have never read these or seen these. The fact that we don't have a community library, is difficult for our students to have access to a variety of books.
