When I introduced the materials, I let them know that someone cared enough about them to take time from their day and money from their wallet to make sure they could have something extra for their classroom. The students immediately responded with immense gratitude and pledged to take special care of the materials. They are aware that our classroom gets to do activities that others don't and it makes them feel special and truly grateful.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, classroom behavior has improved. As a newer teacher, I had to see it to believe it that students are better able to regulate themselves when the day is broken up with hands-on activities. Well, it's true, and I have been making the most of our valuable class time by breaking up the day with activities that get them out of their seats. They also love having access to choice. I rotate the order of who has first pick of activity (Legos at a big table, Jenga on the floor, map puzzle at their desk, etc.) and have found that the students respond to this with a dramatic increase of personal responsibility, such as initiating taking turns and cleaning up. Also, only kids who finish their classwork get to participate in brain break time! It's great motivation.\r\n\r\nAnother way these materials have helped our classroom is by giving inspiration. I recently surveyed the students if they prefer video games or board games, and by golly 15 out of 16 chose board games. When I asked them for more details about that, they said they just like playing with other kids. Also, some students live in very small living spaces and just don't have the opportunity to store games or make space for playing in their homes. As a result, I have been investing part of our week into low-cost art projects and other learning games that involve more interaction and set-up space. Because of this, we are currently taking an extended break from technology in our classroom!\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kind donation and for being all around awesome.","fullyFundedDate":1758643380254,"projectUrl":"project/indoor-low-tech-brain-break-time/9723817/","projectTitle":"Indoor Low-Tech Brain Break Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fagre","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10102673_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755735947978","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10102673"},{"teacherId":10102673,"projectId":9549396,"letterContent":"My students and I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of floor cushions to our classroom. These cushions have made a wonderful difference to our learning environment.\r\n\r\nOur students love being able to move about the room and take advantage of the space during reading time. This opportunity has given them a stronger sense of ownership and pride in their classroom, as well. The students created their own set of rules for the cushions. 1) Don't step on them or damage them in any way. 2) Do not sit next to someone that will distract you while you are reading.\r\n\r\nBecause of this opportunity, the quality of our reading time is much improved and is now a highly valued activity by the students. Your kindness has not only provided comfort but also inspired responsibility and appreciation among our learners.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping create a warm, welcoming classroom where students feel at home and excited to learn each day.","fullyFundedDate":1757945754662,"projectUrl":"project/flex-seating-and-centers-starter-kit/9549396/","projectTitle":"Flex Seating and Centers Starter Kit","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fagre","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10102673_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755735947978","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10102673"},{"teacherId":8663095,"projectId":9079414,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our hydroponics system and outdoor gardening materials! It has also saved on a lot of space in their learning area. This gives my students accessibility to books at their reading levels much more readily. Every time a new box of books would be delivered to the classroom, the students watched in awe as I unboxed them. They waited in anticipation as I got them organized on shelves and prepared them to be checked out by them. Now, with so many new choices, they look forward to the part of the day when they get to browse the books and check out something new. \r\n\r\nMy overall goal is to instill a love of books by offering them a variety of genres to choose from many of which include graphic novels.
