Because of your support, every student in my class was able to hold their own copy of The Outsiders and The House on Mango Street, allowing us to read and experience these stories together. This shared reading experience created a sense of community in our classroom, where students could connect over characters, themes, and emotions that felt real and relevant to their lives.\r\n\r\nMany of my students had never finished a book on their own before this year, but The Outsiders drew them in from the first page. They saw themselves in Ponyboy and his friends, and our classroom conversations were full of thoughtful insights and honest emotions. The House on Mango Street opened another door—students connected to the poetic style and powerful themes, and for some, it was the first time they truly saw their own culture or struggles reflected in a book. These stories didn't just build reading skills—they helped build identity, empathy, and a love for literature that I hope stays with them long after they leave my room.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping us create a classroom where reading matters and where every student feels like they belong in the story.","fullyFundedDate":1665467159481,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-for-literature/6769203/","projectTitle":"Building a Love for Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Alvarado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8656473_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752284762462","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8656473"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_126174","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":788,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.6,"schoolId":126174,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Union Park School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Union Park School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/deer-valley-unified-school-district/union-park-school/126174"}
