Your support has allowed us to expand our collection of engaging and diverse books that have truly sparked a love of reading in my scholars. In addition to the books, your donations helped us purchase comfortable floor pads for flexible seating, creating a welcoming and student-centered environment where children feel excited and motivated to read.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is more than just a daily task, it's a vibrant part of our learning culture. Scholars immerse themselves in stories, explore new perspectives, and practice essential literary skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, development, and critical thinking. With a variety of genres at their fingertips, students are learning how to make connections, ask thoughtful questions, and build reading stamina. Thanks to your generosity, our classroom now feels more like a cozy book now where students eagerly settle into their favorite spots with a good book and a sense of ownership over their learning. We are deeply grateful for your support in making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1744261396669,"projectUrl":"project/fill-our-shelves-fuel-their-minds/9245050/","projectTitle":"Fill Our Shelves, Fuel Their Minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Galindo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9584106_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744077746617","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-galindo24"},{"teacherId":8366426,"projectId":7091913,"letterContent":"The new Learning Wrap-Ups Self-Correcting Math and Reading Palettes have been transformative for my students! They are using these tools to practice a variety of skills in math and reading. For example, during a math lesson, students worked with the 1st Grade Self-Correcting Math Palette to practice addition and subtraction problems. After completing their problems, they were able to instantly check their answers using the self-correcting mechanism, which helped reinforce their learning and gave them the independence to identify and correct mistakes right away. I also observed students practicing reading comprehension skills with the 1st Grade Reading Learning Palette, where they matched words to their definitions. This immediate feedback loop has made a huge difference in their engagement and confidence!\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new Learning Wrap-Ups and palettes, their faces lit up! They were so excited to have their own individual base, and many students immediately wanted to dive in and start using them. I could see how motivated they became knowing that they could independently check their work and receive instant feedback. There was a noticeable sense of pride and accomplishment when they correctly solved a problem and could quickly verify their answer. It's truly rewarding to see how these self-correcting tools foster a sense of independence and ownership in their learning.\r\n\r\nAs we continue using the Learning Wrap-Ups, the next step will be to focus on building fluency and confidence in both math and reading. In math, we'll expand to more complex problems, like double-digit addition and subtraction, using the self-correcting math palettes. Students will work through these problems independently, and I will be there to guide and support where needed. In reading, we'll move to more challenging vocabulary and comprehension exercises, helping students practice using context clues to understand new words. As they become more familiar with these tools, I expect to see even more self-confidence and a deeper understanding of the content. The goal is for each student to feel empowered to correct their own mistakes and celebrate their growth.","fullyFundedDate":1678231185405,"projectUrl":"project/small-group-resource/7091913/","projectTitle":"Small Group Resource","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ransom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8366426_orig.png?crop=806,806,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646941426230","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-lransom"},{"teacherId":8366426,"projectId":7267504,"letterContent":"How are you and your students using the new resources? Share a specific classroom project or moment.\r\n\r\nThe new resources have been incredibly impactful in supporting my students' literacy development. One of the most exciting classroom moments was when we began using the letter learning games and activities. In small groups, I was able to give my struggling readers focused attention as they worked on letter recognition, letter writing, and forming words. The rolling desk allowed me to move between groups easily, providing personalized support and scaffolding as needed. One of my favorite moments was watching a student who had been struggling with letter formation finally write their first full word on their own! It was a small victory, but one that brought so much joy and confidence to that scholar.\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials—especially the light covers, spinning prize wheel, and extra headphones—they were thrilled! The light covers immediately created a calming atmosphere in the room, and students commented on how \"cozy\" it felt. The spinning prize wheel became a quick favorite, with students eagerly participating in classroom activities just for the chance to spin and win a reward. The headphones have also been a huge help, particularly during independent work on digital learning activities. It's given my students a quiet space to focus, and they've been so excited to use the new technology with the equipment that enhances their learning experience.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\n\r\nWe are currently focusing on building fluency with letter sounds and writing, and the next steps involve transitioning from individual letter recognition to beginning word formation. We will be using the letter learning activities to help students match sounds to letters and practice writing simple words. I'm planning to have students work in small groups with me, where I can use the rolling desk to provide hands-on support while they practice writing their own names and other simple words. We'll also integrate the prize wheel to motivate students during these activities, rewarding them for their hard work and progress. The next big milestone will be when they begin writing short sentences, and I am confident that with the new materials, we'll see great progress.","fullyFundedDate":1683678443605,"projectUrl":"project/my-project/7267504/","projectTitle":"My Project","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ransom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8366426_orig.png?crop=806,806,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646941426230","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-lransom"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_126203","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":435,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.1,"schoolId":126203,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sun Valley Academy - Avondale on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sun Valley Academy - Avondale","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/arizona-department-of-education/sun-valley-academy-avondale/126203"}
