We make movies, learn about internet safety, and also learn about programming. With the help of the Donors Choose community, we were able to get the Make Wonder app from Wonder Workshop to teach us how to program using block coding. The program not only teaches us with virtual Dash robots, but there are also live challenges for our real Dash robots. Now we have weekly programming assignments and challenges to help us learn about sequences, loops, conditionals, and variables. STEM and hands-on learning RoCkS! For those who need the motivators, the program give them stickers/badges as incentives. It is great to have quick standards checks in language arts to let us know that the students are on track. One of the ways we explored ancient Aztec culture and events was to read the The Aztec Empire: An Interactive History Adventure with partners. My partner and I traveled several plot-lines.. we survived some more than others. When we finished one storyline, we rushed back to see what would have happened if we chose to be or do something else. The kids were engaged! On other adventures, were also storm watchers and later tried to protect endangered species. Thank you for providing this fun way to become part of the topics we are studying.
