My students have been able to use the new classroom supplies daily. The students have been actively engaged with the new supplies through our English learning projects based in thematic science and social studies units. We're using the new crayons, colored pencils, and markers to create detailed maps of locations, illustrations of vocabulary words and one-pagers summarizing information. A recent highlight was when the students created a wolf mask one-pager after reading a science article on the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park. The students summarized the important details from the text on a wolf mask, colored these and hung them on the class walls to display their learning. \r\n\r\nThe students responded positively when we first introduced the new classroom supplies. Many of these 4th and 5th graders are refugee students, so the idea of having their own books and art supplies in a class for them to use is novel and exciting for them. There was clear excitement as they explored the different types of materials and tested the various colors available. The enthusiasm from that first day has continued as we've progressed through our language learning units, with students taking care to organize the materials properly and sharing supplies respectfully with their classmates.\r\n\r\nOur class has also used these art supplies to create a \"How We Shine\" wall display. The students notice the amazing things their classmates are doing in and around school and give shout outs to each other. They pay attention to our principal's announcements on which students have a growth mindset, or who may have mastered their math facts. They are thrilled to add a name and an honor to our classroom wall. \r\n\r\nSo, thank you again donors! Without your generosity, these types of experiences would not happened as easily in our classrooms.","fullyFundedDate":1754063682222,"projectUrl":"project/new-eld-classroom/9405215/","projectTitle":"New ELD Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Heagle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8642690_orig.jpg?crop=1973,1973,x0,y85&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661369387754","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8642690"},{"teacherId":9996773,"projectId":9251228,"letterContent":"Thank you is an understatement. I'm a new teacher, so my students didn't know what to expect when they first walked into our classroom. I feel so lucky that I was able to have things ready for them from the start. Many of my students were in this classroom last year with a different teacher, and they have told me how nice the room feels now and how much they love the sensory materials. That has meant so much to me.\r\n\r\nI am also thankful to have even the basics like crayons since my room really did not have much and I was starting from scratch. A lot of people do not realize all the little things you need until a student asks for it and it is not there.
