Our school this year is focusing on developing a love of reading--something that is very hard to foster with just the classics I currently had in my library. With the numerous books and bookshelves bought, my students are excited to read new and popular books.\r\nWe have created a library area where students will be writing and posting reviews of the books read in my classroom. The goal is to inspire students to share book recommendations with one another to promote a reading culture in our school.","fullyFundedDate":1764178007602,"projectUrl":"project/alcalas-classroom-library/9907462/","projectTitle":"Alcala's Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alcala","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10355516"},{"teacherId":10355432,"projectId":9947335,"letterContent":"Thank you all so much for the Dungeons & Dragons supplies for the Table Top Gaming club at Verrado High School! I have just taken control of the gaming club from a previous teacher, and the club continues to grow. They can also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This can help the students develop strategic plans, analyze situations, and help them weigh risks and adjust their decisions based on consequences. Most importantly, it helps students with creativity and imagination. They will design characters, build worlds, and help them create dialogue.\r\n\r\nThere are many students who are enjoying the supplies and are learning how to properly use them. With your help, we are able to provide students with sustained silent reading books that they will actually read! With students reading books that they enjoy, they are also completing more assignments based on what they have read. Each student has a reading journal and is keeping track of how many pages they are reading a day. It gives me a good feeling to watch them read.\r\n\r\nStudents in my English classes are reading for at least 10 minutes a day. We set aside that time for each class period for students to read. Their bell work has been tied to their sustained silent reading book. These assignments allow them to think deeper about the things that they are reading. They are learning to read better, to better understand the things that they are reading, and how reading can apply to the things going on today. \r\n\r\nThere are many students who are enjoying the books. There are several books checked out each week. I have personally heard students recommending the book they are reading to other students. The students are reading and engaged with the books. They can now use the hotplate/magnetic stirring plates to obtain better results than trying to stir solutions by hand. \r\n\r\nMy Advanced Placement Chemistry students recently used the magnetic stirrers to determine the heat of solution for a series of chemical compounds. They got more consistent results with the new equipment than they ever would have been able to before. \r\n\r\nThis will also aid my Advanced Placement students when they begin performing acid-base titrations. The continuous stirring action will help students identify the endpoint of the titration much more easily and accurately.\r\n\r\nFinally, all the additional safety equipment I was able to obtain such as goggles, aprons, and gloves will allow all of my students a much safer laboratory experience.
