The new whiteboards and incentive prizes have already transformed the way my students participate and take ownership of their reading growth.\r\n\r\nWe use the whiteboards every day during small-group lessons. Students eagerly grab them to practice phonics patterns, build multisyllabic words, and jot down their thinking during reading discussions. One of my favorite moments so far happened during a recent decoding lesson: a student who usually hesitates to share held up her whiteboard with a huge smile—she had broken a challenging word into syllables all on her own. The entire group celebrated with her, and that small moment of confidence is exactly what these boards were meant to spark.\r\n\r\nThe incentive prizes have also added excitement and motivation to our reading goals. Students earn tickets for effort, growth, and kindness during lessons, and they love choosing from the new reward options. The day the prizes arrived, their eyes grew wide and several students whispered, \"Are these really for us?\" Their enthusiasm hasn't faded—they regularly peek at the prize box and talk about what they're working toward.\r\n\r\nAs we continue to work on our reading skills, students will be using the whiteboards to track their progress with new phonics skills and vocabulary, and they'll continue building stamina and independence during small-groups. Your support has given them tools that will carry them forward in confidence, curiosity, and joy.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and for helping create a space where every reader feels seen and supported.","fullyFundedDate":1757557415543,"projectUrl":"project/reading-room-boost/9614646/","projectTitle":"Reading Room Boost","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Curtiss","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9132684_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691182055548","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9132684"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44851","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":223,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":57,"percentIndigenous":28,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":42.4,"schoolId":44851,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Stedman Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Stedman Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/petersburg-school-district/stedman-elementary-school/44851"}
