Because of you, my students are using these new resources to experience French culture in hands-on, meaningful ways that go far beyond a textbook.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the materials during our cultural celebrations and project-based lessons. One highlight was our first cultural cooking day (celebrating Christmas), when students worked together to prepare traditional French duck, baguettes, and creme brulee. Using the new mixing bowls, utensils, and baking pans, students practiced following instructions in French, collaborated in small groups, and reflected on how food connects to culture and tradition. At the same time, other students explored French culture through our Notre Dame 3D puzzle. Every Friday we have reading and culture day. The beginner-friendly French mystery novel has sparked great conversations about history, architecture, and daily life in France.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and genuine. They were especially thrilled by the cooking supplies and Mardi Gras masks, asking questions about upcoming holidays and traditions we would be celebrating. Several students shared that it was the first time they had ever used tools connected to another culture's cuisine (specifically our bread baking pans), which made the experience feel special and memorable.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, our next steps include celebrating additional French and Francophone holidays (next up Mardi Gras in February), incorporating cultural simulations using Euro currency, and continuing our cooking and craft-based lessons that build language skills alongside collaboration, empathy, and confidence. Students have been collaborating in investigation teams, carefully analyzing evidence, and defending their conclusions using scientific reasoning. One of my favorite moments was watching students passionately debate which pieces of evidence mattered most—completely engaged, focused, and thinking like true forensic scientists.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students gathered around the kits like it was Christmas, asking questions and examining everything closely. Many commented on how \"official\" and \"professional\" the materials looked, and several said it felt like working in a real crime lab. For students in a rural Title I school, having access to these kinds of resources makes them feel capable, trusted, and valued. Our school resource officer often comments about how our materials for the lab are \"better\" than his.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students are continuing their investigations through rotating forensic stations focused on entomology, anthropology, fingerprinting, DNA analysis, and blood spatter interpretation. They are building evidence portfolios and preparing to present their findings, explaining how each piece of evidence supports their conclusions. These next steps are helping them strengthen critical thinking, communication, and confidence.\r\n\r\nMy students are deeply grateful for these supplies and for the chance to conduct hands-on, meaningful crime scene investigations.
