I transformed our classroom into a hospital, and students assumed the roles of doctors. They put on lab coats and masks, listened to heartbeats with stethoscopes, and carefully used toy surgical tools as they examined and cared for their \"patients\" (Vocheer Human Body Anatomy Toy). What truly stood out was how seriously they embraced their roles; they were very polite with one another, taking turns with the toys and sharing them.\r\n\r\nI have a paraprofessional teacher working with me, and the students invited her for checkups, along with other school personnel who happened to visit our classroom during the activity. They confidently used the pretend doctor set to listen to hearts, check ears, and even examine the bones in their legs. Watching my students interact so respectfully and proudly with adults was incredibly fulfilling. In addition, it made me so happy seeing and hearing them use terminology from our lessons, such as \"shin bones,\" arranging organs in the anatomy toy, and carefully placing puzzle pieces in the surgery toys.\r\n\r\nI remember when students first saw the sponsored materials; their excitement was immediate—you could hear giggling, and some of them became extremely curious, moving closer to examine the materials. Even students who are usually reserved became fully engaged. The hands-on experience helped them stay focused longer and participate in ways that are not always possible in a traditional lesson. Our next lesson will focus on astronomy, and I am truly looking forward to making it just as meaningful and engaging as our Human Body unit.","fullyFundedDate":1758314138423,"projectUrl":"project/wear-it-try-it-learn-it-exploring-the/9710602/","projectTitle":"Wear It, Try It, Learn It: Exploring the Human Body","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shane De La Rama","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9136322_orig.png?crop=576,576,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745425753441","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9136322"},{"teacherId":9136328,"projectId":9208716,"letterContent":"I am writing to thank you for all the materials you have provided. Both the students and staff are enjoying them. The students were especially curious about the sensory tiles and wanted to touch and play with them. One of my students, who has sensory needs, has been benefiting greatly from the sensory floor tiles. Each time we work on colors, I remove one tile and allow her to feel its texture while identifying the color. In addition to touching the tiles, we also set aside time each day for her to walk on them with assistance.\r\n\r\nThe Velcro materials have also been very useful. I created a name-matching activity using Velcro letters, which has been especially helpful for students who are unable to use a pencil due to mobility challenges. This activity allows them to practice identifying and forming their names in an accessible way.\r\n\r\nThe sensory sequence and building blocks have been a big hit as well. One of my students, who enjoys creating and building, has especially loved using the blocks. My school principal was thrilled to see that my project was funded and was very happy to see the materials being used in the classroom. This motivated her to share the information with other teachers.\r\n\r\nLastly, the rainbow sensory wall has been enjoyed not only by the students but also by some adults who have visited our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746786205472,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-sensory-processing-and-calm-wi/9208716/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Sensory Processing and Calm with Interactive Walls and Mats","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Delaila","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9136328"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48633","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":197,"numTeachers":12,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":98,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":44.4,"schoolId":48633,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pilot Station School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pilot Station School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/lower-yukon-school-district/pilot-station-school/48633"}
