It can be hard understand the impacts on what winter time depression (SAD) can do to the body and mind unless it has been a lived experience within one's own life. Even those that have not experienced SAD usually understand that it is real, but that it is also treatable through a vast array of techniques. The lights that you have helped fund for our classroom made an immediate impact in a very positive way.\r\n Certain students naturally started choosing their seat for the day by our new lights. It very quickly became a part of their morning and some students verbally described how they like sitting by the lights. One student in particular said he wanted to get a full spectrum light for home because of how much it has helped him in his first hour.\r\n Your donation has and will continue to help our students as we continually find ways to adapt and live in our northern latitudes.","fullyFundedDate":1738705607061,"projectUrl":"project/alleviating-alaskan-winter-depression-sy/8985907/","projectTitle":"Alleviating Alaskan Winter Depression Symptoms and Expanding Our Hydroponic Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Adair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9173144_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1706817624918","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dan-the-science-man"},{"teacherId":9173144,"projectId":9056177,"letterContent":"This was our project created to re-order a light. We had to hang a curtain up it is so bright. Now it appears that I need to have a certain amount of words so that I can publish this. That is just fine with us. It is a good idea to send our actual donors impact letters of what takes place in the classroom to those that generously gave to the program.\r\n\r\nIt gets harder and harder each school year to get the most basic of supplies. Education is being squeezed dry. Hopefully we won't have billionaire funded schools flooding our state of Alaska syphoning off public tax dollars that would normally be going to our community and all those that work in are schools.","fullyFundedDate":1736903277184,"projectUrl":"project/project-to-get-our-grow-light-that-was-n/9056177/","projectTitle":"Project to Get Our Grow Light That Was Not Fulfilled","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Adair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9173144_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1706817624918","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dan-the-science-man"},{"teacherId":9173144,"projectId":8681404,"letterContent":"First, it is simply so much fun seeing some of our more economically disadvantaged students get excited to open something for our classroom that comes in the mail. Sometimes as the adults we forget that opening a donation / gift can be a big deal for adolescents. Just because they physically look like they are almost an adult doesn't mean they don't yearn and desire for simple things that bring a child joy. Such as opening a box that came in the mail. It was also exciting to see the \"WOW\" factor when we first plugged it in. It is bright and powerful. Just what we needed\r\n Our new grow light has made a massive difference in our tomato production. We have a very noticeable increase in offshoots, flowers and tomato development. And the best part? They are absolutely delicious. For myself, I find so much joy watching a young person taste a true home grown tomato for the first time even when they claim they don't like tomatoes. For many born and raised Alaskan students in our program fresh produce is a new experience. \r\n Our new grow light provided by each of you also allowed for a small expansion of our leafy green garden. This produce not only provides daily grazing for our students, it also gets utilized as thank you gift to our many community members that volunteer at our school. This spans from our local indigenous native tribal members to retired individuals that make our students breakfast every morning and many others. \r\nThe impact of your generosity is real and spreading beyond a simple classroom project. All of us hope you feel our sincere thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1732906199711,"projectUrl":"project/winter-lettuce-tomatoes-and-cucumbers-i/8681404/","projectTitle":"Winter Lettuce, Tomatoes and Cucumbers in Alaska?","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Adair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9173144_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1706817624918","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dan-the-science-man"},{"teacherId":9173144,"projectId":8747191,"letterContent":"The impact of your donation is usually not one that is easily seen. However, please do know that what you have provided to our program is being utilized and impacting our students. To be more specific, this type of donation is used by our most at risk students with various forms of non-stability in their life. Having basic hygiene products available for our students at any time they need them is a huge part of how we care for the whole individual. Although it may seem small, these types of supports stay with people as they transfer into adulthood. Your gift to our program will allow us to provide deodorant for the rest of the school year.\r\n Our program simply does not exist without donations, grants and volunteering that we are so fortunate and appreciative to receive.
