We have been working with creating confident readers at our school and sharing the love of reading with others. Our quick picks have been a huge hit since hitting our shelves. Many students love the nostalgic journey of rereading their favorite books from elementary and middle school and have been sharing their love of reading with their siblings at home. \r\n\r\nThis has also opened our library to others who may struggle with reading at a higher level because they feel more welcome to read stuff at their reading level that is available to everyone. More of our special education students feel more welcome in the library and they are over the moon that we have plenty of options for them to read. They will swing by and choose a book to read. I also have been doing more read-aloud times with our intensive resources students, and they love that they can choose a book for me to read aloud during storytimes. This helps them foster a love for reading and storytelling and also helps them understand that a library is a welcoming space for them while they are in school or even out of school. \r\n\r\nThanks for donating to our project. Seeing our students who did not have a represented reading level at our library now have options, and seeing them fall back in love with reading has dramatically changed our library environment to make it more welcoming for everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1736966179399,"projectUrl":"project/quick-picks-empowering-struggling-reade/8866729/","projectTitle":"Quick Picks: Empowering Struggling Readers with Engaging Literary Selections","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jamie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9134136_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x510,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690932622401","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jamie-whiting"},{"teacherId":7630148,"projectId":8724912,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our \"Takis and Chess\" project! When my students first saw the chess sets and snacks, their excitement was contagious. Many of them had never played chess before, but they were eager to dive in and learn. The Takis provided a fun and engaging incentive that brought students together, creating a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition. Watching them gather around the chessboards, strategizing their moves while sharing snacks, has been a joy. It's incredible to see how quickly they've picked up the game and how it's encouraged critical thinking, patience, and collaboration.\r\n\r\nAs we continue incorporating chess into our lessons, students are not only sharpening their problem-solving skills but also building confidence and resilience. We've started hosting mini-tournaments, which have sparked even more enthusiasm and given them a platform to showcase their growth. Moving forward, we plan to explore the connections between chess strategies and real-life decision-making, teaching students to approach challenges thoughtfully and creatively. Your generosity has provided us with tools that go far beyond the game, fostering a sense of curiosity and perseverance that will benefit my students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1725245324476,"projectUrl":"project/takis-and-chess-a-winning-combo/8724912/","projectTitle":"Takis and Chess, a Winning Combo!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Husemann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7630148_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x1008,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1709234371178","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7630148"},{"teacherId":7630148,"projectId":8599881,"letterContent":"I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of my classroom at Lathrop High School. Your contributions of food and social-emotional resources have made an incredible difference in the lives of my students this year. For many of them, school is not only a place of learning but also a haven where they can feel secure and valued. Your kindness has helped create an environment where students can focus on their growth and well-being, free from some of the challenges they face outside of the classroom.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donations, I have been able to provide my students with snacks and meals to ensure they are nourished and ready to learn. This seemingly simple act has removed barriers for students who struggle to concentrate when they are hungry. Additionally, the social-emotional supports you have supplied have helped my students navigate the complexities of adolescence, giving them tools to manage stress, build resilience, and grow as individuals. These resources have empowered my students to become more confident and engaged in their education, and I am so grateful for your role in their success.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only impacted the students in my classroom but has also inspired me as an educator. Knowing that we have your support encourages me to continue striving to make our classroom a place where every student can thrive. Thank you again for your dedication to helping students reach their potential. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1723468004984,"projectUrl":"project/food-is-cheap-but-building-emotional-he/8599881/","projectTitle":"Food is Cheap, But Building Emotional Health Takes a Team!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Husemann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7630148_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x1008,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1709234371178","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7630148"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44035","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":855,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":8,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":43.3,"schoolId":44035,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lathrop High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lathrop High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/fairbanks-north-star-borough-sd/lathrop-high-school/44035"}
