Your donation has made students more excited about science. Instead of reading a book and looking at pictures of crystals, we were able to create them. Being able to see science in action makes the concepts being discussed that much more memorable and applicable.\r\n\r\nBoth science and math students are benefiting from lessons being purchased from other experienced teachers that have tried and had success with activities. Instead of spending hours creating experiments, making lists of materials, and creating data collection charts for my middle school science class, I am working directly with students in preparation for activities and answering their questions about concepts. Games purchased help my math students with coordinate grids. By playing Battleship, they can practice and see coordinate grids in action and apply it to their math and science practice. Any way to make concepts that I teach stick with them for their success in life.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity and support in our classroom. Both my middle school and high school classes now have copies of our class novels that aren't old, dated, and unrelatable.\r\n\r\nBefore your donation, Steller's book room had a wonderful selection of literary classics that our grandparents loved. But for our kids, it was hard for them to truly engage with the readings. They didn't see themselves in the books, which is not the worst thing. It's great to teach perspective and challenge their norms, but students connect to books by seeing parallels in their lives. They need modern lit to open the doors to the classics. \r\n\r\nThe impact has been immediate and profound. Kids were saying, \"I've read that and loved it!\", \"It's been on my reading list\", \"I've heard it's ok.\" All responses that are very encouraging. \r\n\r\nThese novels aren't just paper and inkâthey are doorways to new worlds, new perspectives, and deeper understanding. They are the foundation of our classroom community, giving us a shared story to discuss and analyze. \r\n\r\nBecause of the donations you made, my students will realize that it does take a village to educate and learning doesn't happen just in the seats of a classroom. Thank you for supporting my classroom, our students, and the future citizens of our country. You haven't just provided books; you have fostered a love of reading and shown my students that there are people who believe in their education.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your kindness has a ripple effect that will last far beyond the final chapter of these books.","fullyFundedDate":1746033878446,"projectUrl":"project/let-them-read/9258289/","projectTitle":"Let Them Read","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Reed","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6107808"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42487","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":250,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":49,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":5,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.4,"schoolId":42487,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Steller Secondary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Steller Secondary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/anchorage-school-district/steller-secondary-school/42487"}
