These organized spaces help create a welcoming and accessible learning space for all students. Your generosity for this project has given our 5th grade classroom this luxury of organization and accessibility. \r\n\r\nFirst, our classroom needed a set of mail boxes because they are a integral system for students to store their materials, sort old assignments, and receive new or important information. Adding this item to our class this year has given students the opportunity to contribute to our classroom and take on the role of \"mail return\". Giving students this meaningful job has helped our goal of organization, but has also supported our classroom community by allowing students to contribute and help when they are needed. \r\n\r\nFinally, we had a great need for inside recess toys. With the unpredictable weather in Alaska it is imperative we have activities available for students to access in creative and collaborative ways. The toys that were donated have given our classroom the opportunity to practice inclusion, conflict resolution, tolerance, fairness, and so many more social and emotional skills. Our 5th graders are so grateful for the variety of toys we have been donated. \r\n\r\nThank you, once again, for your generosity and willingness to donate to our classroom. Without your help our classroom wouldn't be as amazing as it is today.","fullyFundedDate":1754005129173,"projectUrl":"project/5th-graders-work-hard-play-hard-too/9457636/","projectTitle":"5th Graders Work Hard & Play Hard Too!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mellberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9141079_orig.jpg?crop=366,366,x394,y312&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752201053806","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9141079"},{"teacherId":301989,"projectId":9324791,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation of art supplies to our Kindergarten classrooms! We have learned the history of the instrument, how to hold the instrument correctly and different options of strumming.\r\n\r\nMy students have been learning chords on the Ukulele and have been able to play along with many songs that have two, three and four chords. Sometimes even five. I love that we can scaffold the learning by keeping it simple for those that need it simple and throwing in extra chords for those that want that challenge. We talk about having a growth mindset and to not give up just because we can't do something \"YET\", It takes practice. Each student can be successful on their own terms, which is great. The students are beyond thankful. \r\n\r\nWith the additions of new seating areas I have seen first hand an increase in sustained reading. Building reading stamina is an essential skill to develop at the elementary age. Reading stamina improves comprehension skills, builds mental endurance and helps students get started on their books while at school which increases the likelihood of them continuing reading the book outside of school time.\r\n\r\nI hear from parents, students, and teachers how much their child is appreciating the new seating areas that are available for them to just chill out and read. Students are excited now for independent reading time, or reading with their buddy. Students are excited to come in and spend time in the library.
