Students are using these appliances during structured life skills lessons to practice preparing simple meals and snacks, such as heating food, storing items safely, and cleaning up afterward. One memorable moment was watching a student independently heat their lunch for the first time—something they had never felt confident doing before. With guidance and repetition, they followed each step and proudly shared, \"I did it by myself!\"\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new appliances, they were excited and curious. Many asked questions and were eager to try them right away. These tools have made our lessons more engaging and meaningful because students are learning skills they can immediately connect to their everyday lives. They are not only building independence, but also learning responsibility, safety, and confidence in a supportive environment.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue building on these skills by expanding our lessons into simple meal planning, following basic recipes, and practicing real-world routines like organizing food and making healthy choices. These experiences are preparing our students for greater independence at home and in the community. Your support has truly made a lasting impact, and we are so grateful for the opportunities you have helped create for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1770917146562,"projectUrl":"project/helping-our-students-gain-independence-t/9983497/","projectTitle":"Helping Our Students Gain Independence Through Life Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Debora Murray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9105102_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y386&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692890188511","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9105102"},{"teacherId":9196264,"projectId":10110592,"letterContent":"When the large boxes entered my classroom, the expressions on my students' faces were priceless. We were grossly underfunded and in need of equipment. I didn't know how I was going to make through the first and second 9 weeks because my yearly stipend had not been distributed. I was notified that it would be late. I received an email from the Donors Choose team and I was full of enthusiasm. I applied and received the funding for the supplies I needed. The Donors Choose team really came through for my 177 students.\r\n My students were so excited to see the footballs, volleyballs, and soccer balls. Middle school students love to learn new sports and are excited to engage in sports that will also give them adequate physical activity. The new volleyballs helped tremendously and gave those students who were not familiar with the sport to participate and learn how the game is played. My students have expressed their gratitude outwardly by being actively engaged in the sports units of football, soccer and volleyball. I shared with them how we got the equipment and it really made them appreciate my efforts. Thanks to the Donors Choose team, I am truly appreciated by my students. The paper towels have been such a big help. The students wash their hands 3-4 times a day because we promote cleanliness in the classroom. The laundry supplies came at the perfect time. A few students had some accidents and their clothes needed to be washed. We were able to wash and dry their clothes before the end od the day. Making sure the students are clean is very important. We know children will have accidents. But it gives parents relief when they know their children have made a mess but they are clean upon ariving home. The dry erase markers have been used to help explain lessons to the children. The impact that you have made on my class cannot be expressed enough through a thank you.
