Your support has made a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of my second grade students, and we are deeply grateful for your kindness, generosity, and commitment to education. Because of you, our classroom has been transformed into a space where creativity is encouraged, voices are honored, and learning feels both personal and powerful.\r\nThrough your donation, each student received a writing journal and a set of headphones. While these items may appear small, their impact has been tremendous. For many of my students, this was the first time they had ever owned a journal that belonged solely to them. Having a personal writing space gave them a sense of pride and responsibility. They now treat their journals with care because they understand that what goes inside matters. These journals have helped students begin to see themselves not just as learners, but as writers with stories, ideas, and opinions worth sharing.\r\nSince the journals were introduced, I have seen a remarkable increase in writing stamina and confidence. Students who once struggled to get started or wrote only a few sentences are now writing for longer periods of time with enthusiasm. Pages are being filled with personal narratives, imaginative stories, opinion pieces, and thoughtful reflections. The journals have become a safe and trusted place for students to express their feelings, experiences, and creativity. Some students write about their families and favorite memories, others write about future goals and dreams, and many are creating original stories that show clear growth in vocabulary, sentence structure, and detail. Writing is no longer viewed as a chore. It has become an outlet and something students genuinely look forward to each day.\r\nThe headphones have played an equally important role in enhancing our learning environment. With the use of headphones, students are able to focus more deeply while working independently on their devices. They allow students to listen to writing prompts, mentor texts, and instructional videos without distractions. This has been especially beneficial for students who learn best through auditory input. Being able to replay directions or listen to stories read aloud has helped students better understand expectations and improve their writing skills. The headphones also provide a sense of calm and structure, helping students stay engaged and confident during independent and small group work.\r\nTogether, the writing journals and headphones have supported a variety of writing prompts and different modes of writing that are essential in helping students become proficient writers. Students are exposed to narrative, informative, and opinion writing, as well as creative storytelling and reflective journaling. Writing prompts encourage them to think critically, organize their thoughts, and write with purpose. Listening to examples and prompts through their headphones allows students to visualize ideas, expand their thinking, and apply new strategies directly to their writing. As a result, their work has become more detailed, organized, and expressive.\r\nMost importantly, this project has helped students understand that their voices matter. They take pride in their writing and are eager to share their work with peers and teachers. Your generosity has done more than provide supplies. It has sent a powerful message to my students that they are seen, valued, and supported by people who care about their success. For children who face daily challenges, that message is life-changing.\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts, thank you, DonorsChoose, for making Write It Out, Tune In possible. Your impact will continue to be felt every time a student opens their journal, puts on their headphones, and writes with confidence, creativity, and joy.","fullyFundedDate":1758202655146,"projectUrl":"project/write-it-out-tune-in/9662693/","projectTitle":"Write it Out & Tune In","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Woodard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8108244_orig.jpg?crop=273,273,x196,y55&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1633033493208","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8108244"},{"teacherId":2943274,"projectId":7926119,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping my students with books that they can see themselves in. Since implementing the new seating options, I've seen a truly positive transformation in both the learning environment and my students' engagement.\r\n\r\nThe flexible seating has given students the autonomy to choose how they learn best. Some prefer wobble stools that let them move while staying focused, while others enjoy the calming effect of a cozy floor cushion during independent reading. This freedom has led to more on-task behavior, better collaboration, and increased participation—especially from students who previously struggled to stay engaged in traditional desks.\r\n\r\nI've noticed students take more ownership of their learning. They're more excited to come to class and more willing to take risks in their work. For some of my more active learners, having the option to move without being disruptive has made a huge difference in their confidence and productivity.\r\n\r\nThis project has truly created a more inclusive, student-centered space that meets the diverse needs of every learner. My students were so excited to recieve the coloring tools and coloring books. The looks on their faces were priceless. I am so grateful that we were able to bring them such joy. \r\n\r\nI would just like to share with you my procedures and data. I always inform my students at the beginning of the day what assessments we have, so that they are prepared. I gave them 5-7 minutes of coloring/drawing time before the assessment. ( I don't do it for every assessment.) After coloring for the allotted time, I noticed that students seemed to smile more, and looked more relaxed while taking the assessment. \r\n\r\nOn our first Reading assessments after getting the materials, 79% of students scored a 70% or above on the independent reading compared to the 74% from last quarter.
