My school has a year A.R. goal of 80 points, and I simply did not have the sufficient amount of books to help my students reach their goal. Additionally, we have daily independent reading time and my students love to pick out books that match their interests. I can remember back to when I was a child and hoping to find books in my classroom that I enjoyed reading. I requested books on many reading levels, so that ALL of my students could find something that sparked their love of reading.\r\n My students are engaged when I ask them to add the \"5W\" details of their book to their writing journal. This helps their comprehension skills by providing the who, what, when, where, and why of their book.I've even seen some illustrations! Independent reading time allows students to take ownership of their reading skills and increases their love of reading when there are books available that interests them.\r\n I also use the books to provide students with more opportunity to read words that we are focused on each week in phonics. They love looking for words in their books that match the skill for the week!","fullyFundedDate":1730655294058,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-larger-classroom-library/8792348/","projectTitle":"Creating a Larger Classroom Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9127946_orig.jpg?crop=540,540,x0,y142&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726542682803","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9127946"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15738","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":220,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":93,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":62.5,"schoolId":15738,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Phillips Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Phillips Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/marion-county-school-district/phillips-elementary-school/15738"}
