Students in grades 4-5 were excited to dive into the world of Wonder during their reading novel-study time. They learned comprehension strategies, vocabulary, and lessons on building character while reading Wonder. There were several fourth and fifth grade students who attended summer camp, so this made it possible for those students to have individual access to a book. \r\n\r\nStudents were really appreciative to learn reading through a novel-study versus using a traditional reading program. Whenever we talk about money, I use this money hands-on teaching kit. By using this kit, my students are starting to have a better understanding of identifying different types of money and counting different amounts of money. This is a hard skill for students to learn and I'm so glad that we have this kit so that they can understand money. They didn't really understand what it was at first. I had to explain to them that it would help them learn about money a whole lot easier. Once I told them that, they got excited about it. \r\nI have two projects posted on DonorsChoose right now. One is for some Reading Skills Quiz Cards and Power Pens to help them improve their reading skills. I know that they will have a lot of fun with this activity. They will have so much fun, they won't realize that they are learning at the same time. The other project that I have posted is for a CVC Words Hands-On Teaching Kit and a Sight Words Hands-On Teaching Kit. These kits will help my students learn these important skills in a more engaging and hands-on way instead of just pencil and paper. Thanks again for supporting our project.","fullyFundedDate":1738798935524,"projectUrl":"project/making-cents-with-money/8869392/","projectTitle":"Making Cents With Money","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pressley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8948330_orig.jpg?crop=271,271,x43,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1684649624051","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8948330"},{"teacherId":8948330,"projectId":8748462,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project. One is for some Power Pens and a Reading Skills Quiz Card Set. I want my students to be able to practice their reading skills so they can master them by the end of the year. The other one is for some hands-on reading kits. I want to make learning as stress free as possible because I know that students can get easily agitated if you work them too much with pencil and paper. We only have a few right now and we are in desperate need for more ipads. The second project is for some new stools for my students to sit in at my desk if they need help with an assignment or need to talk to me about something serious. The chair that I have by my desk now is unstable and not really safe for my students to climb into. That's why these stools would be perfect for my classroom. The last project that is live is for some money manipulatives. Counting money can be hard to learn. These manipulatives will help make learning about money a lot easier for my students to understand.
