We use the dual-language books and \"Centro de Tiempo Circular\" daily during our morning meeting and literacy rotations. The bilingual visuals help my students make clear language connections when we sing our alphabet songs and chants, we point to the letters in both English and Spanish and practice their sounds. The floor cushions have become a favorite spot for our classroom library, where students choose a from a variety of books and share what they see and understand with a partner. One of my favorite moments was watching my students who entered school speaking only English proudly read and recognizing words in Spanish to their classmates. They are so proud of themselves! \r\n\r\n Their excitement was contagious! The moment they saw the colorful materials, the new bilingual books, and the soft reading cushions, their eyes lit up. Since the first day of school they wanted to explore the book. For most of my students, it was the first time they saw both of their languages represented equally in a classroom, and that made a powerful impression.\r\n\r\n Right now, my students are learning to write their sentences with guidance in both English and Spanish using our new visuals and vocabulary charts as guides. Our next goal is to continue to practice both languages focusing on oral language. We'll also begin simple book talks and number talks during circle time to build confidence and fluency in both languages. These materials have given my students the tools and the motivation to take pride in their learning and to see bilingualism as a superpower. Thank you for believing in the power of speaking two languages.","fullyFundedDate":1753129952934,"projectUrl":"project/cultural-connections-enriching-our-kind/9450724/","projectTitle":"Cultural Connections: Enriching Our Kindergarten Dual-Language Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Arias","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6483880_orig.jpg?crop=1137,1137,x168,y14&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752817225094","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6483880"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34438","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":517,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"22.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":61.2,"schoolId":34438,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Yucca Valley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Yucca Valley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/morongo-unified-school-district/yucca-valley-elementary-school/34438"}
