It wasn't just about what was inside the bags, it was about the kindness shared through the process. I watched students light up as they filled the bags, chatting about who might get theirs and what message might brighten someone's day.\r\n\r\nWhen the kits were delivered, excitement filled the halls. Several teachers shared that students were thrilled and genuinely touched to receive something thoughtful during such a stressful week.\r\n\r\nThis project reminded all of us how simple acts of kindness can create a ripple effect of positivity. Your support has made a lasting impact on our students, and I am so grateful for your kindness.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, the students at WRHS had an incredible time filling the Valentine Grams with fun items, taking requests, and delivering them to their classmates. It was such a rewarding experience for them to participate in something that brought so much joy to others. The students who received the bags were thrilled, and even though the items were simple, many shared with their teachers how much they appreciated receiving them. It was heartwarming to see the smiles and hear the excitement that these little gifts brought.\r\n\r\nWhile our Valentine-themed items arrived on time, the Christmas-themed items came after the holiday break, so we were unable to create both Christmas and Valentine goody bags this year. However, we are excited to hold on to the Christmas items and look forward to using them for next year's holiday activities.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our students are excited to continue working on projects that foster community, kindness, and collaboration. This experience has inspired them to think of other ways to make a positive impact on the school and their peers, while also contributing to improving mental health by spreading joy and encouraging connection.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity. When we first opened the box, the students were so excited they helped me unpack and put things away. The etch-sketch, double-sided whiteboards and the expo markers get used the most. Their favorite activity is an activity we call Picasso. The students work in pairs. There is a picture projected on the front board and one student can see the picture and has to describe it to the student who has their back to the board. They have a few minutes to describe the photo to the artist who's listening to the description. They can ask questions as they work together and then at the end, we vote on the drawing that is the most similar to the picture projected on the board. The great thing about the activity is that the students forget that they're engaged in the language while building their skills. The Guess Who game gets used a lot in my lower level Spanish classes learning and practicing vocabulary about hair, color and eye color and describing features and working on feminine and masculine adjectives. Everything has been an incredible blessing! \r\nThe activities change things up and make it so that the classroom is fun. I wanted students to experience and try to figure out the phenomena they just performed. The video doesn't show it well but I had the class perform the cloud procedure all together and \"pop\" their 2 liter bottles at the same time. There were a lot of \"wows\" and \"whats\"! Perfect, they were primed for understanding and doing some \"science\". \r\n\r\nImmediately the students were curious on how the bottle worked and what was happening. The plan was to have them come up with experiments using the bottle system, to identify different independent, or dependent, variables they could test. Students were already coming up with ideas before I could get to that! They started noticing different aspects of the bottle, what was inside the bottle, how many presses of the bulb, they were observing and thinking about the process. The process was formalized in an assignment, a CER, for their experiment. \r\n\r\nThank you for funding this lab! Instead of seeing a phenomena and being wowed, which is good, but what was great was the students desire to figure out how the process works. Which led into a discussion on the basics of weather and asking students questions on weather phenomena. Students were then invited to repressurize their bottles with the cloud inside and notice the clearing up of the clouds. From the litany of questions that arose I think students were now interested in how weather works. I wish I had more time in the school year! Your contribution has allowed us to purchase a boom box and several soccer balls, items that may seem simple but have had a profound impact on our students' daily lives and academic engagement.\r\n\r\nOur class is primarily composed of Hispanic students from socioeconomically challenged backgrounds. Many of them face numerous obstacles outside of school, which can sometimes affect their focus and enthusiasm for learning. However, the items you've funded have become powerful tools in creating a positive and energizing atmosphere in our classroom. The boombox allows us to play music during breaks, with rap being a particular favorite among the students. This not only provides entertainment but also serves as a cultural touchpoint, allowing students to connect with their heritage and express themselves. The soccer balls have been equally impactful, encouraging physical activity and teamwork during recess. It's been heartwarming to see students who might otherwise feel isolated forming bonds over a shared love of the sport.\r\n\r\nWhat's truly remarkable is how these simple additions to our classroom have improved overall academic performance and behavior. The promise of enjoyable breaks with music and soccer has become a powerful motivator. Students work harder and remain more focused during lessons, knowing they have something to look forward to during their downtime. This has created a positive cycle: increased focus leads to better understanding, which in turn boosts confidence and encourages even more engagement. Your donation has not just provided entertainment; it has helped foster a more productive and harmonious learning environment. The students' improved mood and energy levels are palpable, and it's a joy to see them excited about coming to school each day. Your generosity has touched these young lives in ways that extend far beyond the classroom walls, and for that, we are immensely grateful.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support and for believing in the potential of our students. Your kindness has made a real difference in their educational journey and their lives.\r\n\r\nWith sincere appreciation,\r\n\r\nMatt Phillips\r\nTeacher\r\nWood River High School","fullyFundedDate":1729779487617,"projectUrl":"project/kick-up-the-beat-soccer-and-music-as-st/8835202/","projectTitle":"Kick Up the Beat: Soccer and Music as Student Incentives","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Phillips","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9782502"},{"teacherId":3481890,"projectId":8796621,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous contributions, which have allowed us to introduce handheld translating devices into our classrooms. This technology has been transformative in helping our students learn and thrive in a multilingual environment.\r\n\r\nHandheld translating devices are making a significant impact by bridging language gaps in real-time. They empower students who are still developing their English skills to actively participate in lessons, collaborate with peers, and engage with the curriculum. These devices not only help students understand new concepts but also boost their confidence as they navigate an English-speaking environment.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting features of this technology for our students is its immediate feedback and user-friendly design. Many students are amazed by how quickly they can translate words or sentences and hear accurate pronunciations. This instantaneous support makes learning more interactive and less intimidating, fostering a sense of independence in their language acquisition journey.\r\n\r\nFor example, we have a student who recently arrived from Vietnam without any prior knowledge of English. Communication was a significant challenge at first, especially since no one at our school speaks Vietnamese. The handheld translating device has been a lifeline for him, allowing him to ask questions, understand his lessons, and share his thoughts. It's been incredible to see him grow more confident and begin to connect with his teachers and classmates in ways that seemed impossible before.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly been a game-changer for students like him. The handheld translating devices are not just tools; they are gateways to deeper learning and connection. On behalf of our students and staff, thank you for making this possible. Your generosity is shaping brighter futures and fostering a community of understanding and inclusion.","fullyFundedDate":1726628109778,"projectUrl":"project/translate-the-world-empower-with-words/8796621/","projectTitle":"Translate the World: Empower with Words","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hoehn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3481890_orig.jpg?crop=682,683,x332,y200&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726624959471","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3481890"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52397","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":926,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":60.6,"schoolId":52397,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Wood River High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Wood River High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/idaho/blaine-county-school-district-61/wood-river-high-school/52397"}
