Because of you, my students now have access to engaging, high-interest books like The Naturals and The Silent Patient, which are helping them build essential skills such as critical thinking, making inferences, analyzing character motivations, and supporting their ideas with evidence. These texts push students to think deeply, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussions—skills that are not only important in English class but across all subjects and in their future college experiences.\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active, collaborative, and student-centered. Students participate in book club discussions where they share their thoughts, challenge each other's ideas, and make connections between the text and real life. They annotate, predict outcomes, and analyze clues—especially with mystery-based texts like The Naturals. What makes this experience even more special is that students have a sense of ownership; they are excited knowing they can keep the books if they truly love them or pass them along to a peer to continue the joy of reading.\r\nI have already seen students who may not have considered themselves readers become fully engaged and eager to participate. Some students are especially drawn to the suspense and problem-solving elements, often discussing theories and plot twists even outside of class. Your support has not only provided books, but it has created a community of readers who feel empowered, excited, and connected. Thank you for making this possible for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1767631894735,"projectUrl":"project/bean-bags-books-and-brilliant-girls/9922887/","projectTitle":"Bean Bags, Books, and Brilliant Girls","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gould","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7230035_orig.jpg?crop=1245,1245,x622,y647&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764085174242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7230035"},{"teacherId":7230035,"projectId":9223489,"letterContent":"I am writing to share the remarkable impact your generosity has made in my classroom. Thanks to your thoughtful contributions of small whiteboards, dry-erase markers, erasers, and a classroom printer, my students in Spanish, College Advising, and Career Pathways are learning and engaging in new and exciting ways every day.\r\n\r\nBringing Lessons to Life\r\n\r\nThe small white boards have transformed daily lessons into interactive learning experiences. In Spanish class, students hold up answers to vocabulary and grammar prompts, allowing for immediate feedback and lively participation. During College Advising and Career Pathways sessions, the boards are used for brainstorming, quick reflections, and group planning, helping students collaborate and think critically in real time.\r\n\r\nTools for Active Engagement\r\n\r\nDry-erase markers and erasers have encouraged a risk-free environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and trying again. This simple ability to \"wipe and revise\" has strengthened their confidence and deepened their understanding of key concepts across all three courses.\r\n\r\nEssential Classroom Support\r\n\r\nThe classroom printer has been equally transformative. From printing college applications and resumes to creating personalized Spanish practice sheets and career exploration handouts, the printer ensures that every student has immediate access to the resources they need to succeed. It has also allowed me to respond quickly with differentiated materials to meet individual learning needs.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, lessons are more dynamic, feedback is immediate, and student voices are at the center of the learning process. You have helped create a classroom where students feel empowered, prepared, and enthusiastic about learning.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students and myself, thank you for believing in their potential and for helping us build a vibrant, engaging, and well-equipped learning space.","fullyFundedDate":1746786987758,"projectUrl":"project/an-engaging-spanish-class/9223489/","projectTitle":"An Engaging Spanish Class","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gould","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7230035_orig.jpg?crop=1245,1245,x622,y647&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764085174242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7230035"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_18668","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":168,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":42,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":1,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"8.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.1,"schoolId":18668,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Women's Academy of Excellence on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Women's Academy of Excellence","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/women-s-academy-of-excellence/18668"}
