My students are learning English and positional words can be tricky! Practicing the words from a vocabulary sheet is simply not enough to help students memorize the words. Acting it out with high quality materials, however, is a fabulous strategy! With these materials, I give a command, such as \"Put the bear IN the toy box\" and the students would use the materials to do it. Sometimes, we'd get silly with the commands! (\"Put the car in the pool\" or \"put the duck on the car.\") Sometimes, I'd have a student take a turn giving the commands. Sometimes the kids would race to see who could do it first. A huge part of reading is talking about what you already know about the topic before reading. This allowed learning and collaboration to take place before even opening the book. My students were so excited to receive the new games. Zingo, Headbandz, and the vocabulary flashcards have been a fantastic addition to my classroom. When it comes to Zingo, the students are excited- and competitive!- so they learn the vocabulary words quickly. The expansion packs opened it up to even more vocabulary words that could be incorporated into the game. Headbanz is another fan favorite amongst my students. Every time a student puts the picture cards on his or her headband, the rest of the group laughs and gets super excited. This game has been great for oral language development, because the person guessing has to ask questions (in English) in order to guess the picture/word, and the rest of the students have to listen closely and answer the questions. The vocabulary flashcards have been great for introducing new words with pictures, and for playing matching/memory games.
