We have been working so hard this year on building our library and making sure that every student has a nice selection of books that are both interesting to them and at their reading level. \r\n\r\nThis project included additional books from series we already have in our classroom. My Spanish speakers were happy to have more books to choose from in their native language. I love how they get excited to pick up books in both Spanish and English, building their second language while continuing to expand their first language. \r\n\r\nThere was also a group of very happy students when we opened Mr. Wolf's Classroom. This series was a student request, as we only had book once in the series. It has become very popular recently, and is picked up by a student as soon as one is put back on the shelf. We can't wait to see if more books come out in the series we can add to our collection.","fullyFundedDate":1772990742456,"projectUrl":"project/library-extension/10129930/","projectTitle":"Library Extension","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Eichman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1906521_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516224662442","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hollyeichman"},{"teacherId":1906521,"projectId":10019167,"letterContent":"This project was especially important for our classroom because it included those high interest, low difficulty texts. The students love having options, especially more options that they can read independently. \r\n\r\nDragon Masters was an immediate popular choice because it is a fantasy series much like Wings of Fire, but way less difficult. The students who were trying to read Wings of Fire to be more like some of their peers now have a fun option thats more their reading ability level.\r\n\r\nThe Baby Mouse and Narwhal books were also well received. Some of the students had already finished the other books in the series and were excited to grab new ones thye had not read yet. \r\n\r\nIt's wonderful that with help I can provide so many choices for my students. The size has allowed small groups to meet at the carpet for collaboration during social studies. The students love that it's a little more plush and comfortable to sit on. They've also been very exited for jobs at the end of the day, because a student gets to vacuum and keep it looking nice and ready for kids to relax. They see it as theirs and want to take care of it, which I love. \r\n\r\nWe're so happy that this has been added to our space thanks to wonderful donors!","fullyFundedDate":1774092958847,"projectUrl":"project/a-space-to-read-a-space-to-learn/10109859/","projectTitle":"A Space to Read, A Space to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Eichman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1906521_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516224662442","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hollyeichman"},{"teacherId":1906521,"projectId":10069768,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support in this project. One student even saw the second book in the series at his local library and grabbed it since it wasn't available in the classroom! \r\n\r\nOverall they've really enjoyed graphic novels so it was a nice change for some to grab a fiction chapter book. Baby Mouse has been popular with the girls, and a great introduction for them into graphic novels. Same goes for Baby-Sitters Little Sister, the girls are loving them. These books filled an important gap in our classroom library. Social Studies includes so many different domains, and I wanted to make sure that students had access to nonfiction and historical fiction that would peak their interest. \r\n\r\nMy students were excited to have new books to browse, and immediately there were a few students who swapped out their current book for a new history book. The History Smashers book on plagues and pandemics was a hit and quickly grabbed by a student. My Spanish speaking students were also excited to have two new Spanish books. The I Survived Titanic, Spanish version, has been pretty popular. My students earned a reward party for good behavior (they had to be caught all doing a nice job by another staff member ten times to earn it). We spent the last hour of our day playing UNO in small groups. Many of my students were playing it for the first time. Everyone had fun, and all the students got to take home their own brand new deck of UNO cards to play with their families! The recess games have already been a hit, and I know once we return from our snow days we'll have a long stretch of indoor recess to continue to enjoy our new games. \r\n\r\nKerplunk and Charades have definitely been extremely popular. Charades has had an added surprise advantage of learning new vocabulary. While Kerplunk has resulted in marbles rolling all over the room, the kids are having so much fun. I was quite surprised that none of the students had ever played Battleship, as it was such a staple of my childhood. They've really enjoyed learning the rules and the extra practice with map grids. We've also been playing a lot of What Would You Choose during bus duty. My students were a little shocked that I'd rather eat a bug than never brush my teeth again in my entire life.
