At first, when I heard about this website I was very skeptical about the results, we are living hard times after all. Still, the love for my students encouraged me to write the proposal, I had nothing to loose after all. I cannot tell you the joy I felt when our project was funded the very next day!! That moment brought back a hope that was slowly slipping away from me.\r\n\r\nMy students are a curious bunch, and as the boxes arrived they were very intrigued to find out what was inside. They enjoyed opening the boxes with me and seeing all the interesting things that were for their benefit and enjoyment. They even used the large box where the wiggle stools came in as a play house for a while! But the one thing that brought the biggest smile was the rocket ship tent. As soon as the tent was put up we integrated it into our Social Skills class to help them understand that it was a place to help them regulate their big emotions. After working on this lesson for a week, we also presented the concept of waiting our turn and giving our friend time and space to be able to self regulate. \r\n\r\nThe wiggle stools were perfect for the students who needed that extra sensory stimuli to be able to focus on the tasks they are working on. They move their stools even to the free play area! The sensory discs are helping to keep calm hands and feet at the table during instruction time, especially when an assessment is being administered. It helps calm their nerves. We also have a student who receives their stimulus through the sole of their feet, so the discs help calm their level of anxiety or \"wiggles\". They have felt great satisfaction in seeing all the work that they are completing, and the delicious prizes they are earning as rewards for their hard work!\r\n\r\nAs the year continues, we are progressing to self advocacy. Our students will be learning how to be able to identify their emotions and the proper tools to be able to cope with those emotions. We are also working on proper communication skills and how to be a good friend.\r\n\r\nI truly believe that my students have been able to grow because of the donations that were made to our classroom. Even though they are not able to write you all a letter or draw you a picture, my students are truly thankful for what you have done for them. They are making great strides both academically and emotionally because you decided to invest in them, and that is truly something that I am grateful for.
