We've been incorporating the seating into our daily science lessons, and one project where they made a big difference was during group investigations. Students were able to spread out, move around, and choose the seating arrangement that helped them focus best, which made collaboration much smoother and more engaging.\r\n\r\nThe very first day we set up the seating, my students' faces lit up. They were eager to try every option, and many commented that they felt more comfortable and focused during class. Some even said they couldn't wait to come back the next day to use their \"favorite spot\" again—it was clear right away how much the environment mattered to their learning.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my classroom feels more welcoming and student-centered. Our next steps are to continue using the flexible seating during upcoming science labs and independent research projects, giving students the ability to learn in the way that works best for them. Your funds are giving my students a memorable and educational experience. This past week I asked my students to share the most memorable activity, investigation, or fact that they have learned in Science this year and over 90% of them chose composting!\r\n\r\nTo start off this project students and I read excerpts from the book \"Total Garbage: A Messy Dive Into Trash, Waste, and Our World\" by Rebecca Donnelly. From these excerpts, we learned how much trash Americans are producing and its impact on our world. We learned that about a quarter of Americans trash is food waste. Following the readings we completed our own trash audits and graphed the combined data. \r\n\r\nAs a group we decided it was important to do something to help our planet by decreasing the amount of trash we produce. We decided to compost. Since we made this decision, we have collected two 5 gallon buckets of food waste from the students lunch food scraps and from their home. Each class has had the chance to add the scraps to our Bokashi composters with the bokashi bran. We have drained the compost tea as we let the food scraps ferment. Finally, we have successfully buried our fermented pre-compost food scraps. We look forward to digging the completed compost up in the spring to plant lettuce and tomato seeds. \r\n\r\nAs much as students learn from discussions and readings, nothing makes more of an impact than hands on experiences. Your funding allowed me to take my teaching to the next level. To provide students with something memorable and hands on. I look forward to continuing this project with my current students and with next year's students. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for supporting my idea and allowing this project to come to fruition!","fullyFundedDate":1723640567282,"projectUrl":"project/sustainability-in-the-classroom-a-compo/8500085/","projectTitle":"Sustainability in the Classroom: A Composting Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gaskill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9594983"},{"teacherId":3820843,"projectId":8676260,"letterContent":"I truly can't thank you enough for your generous donations to my Donorschoose project. .Your support will allow me to continue providing low-cost resources to the students in our community who need them most.
