No matter which language you choose to say \"thank you,\" it expresses the same deep-felt gratitude and appreciation. Words alone cannot express how much funding this project means to me and the Willow Glen Primary School students.\r\n\r\nIn September of 2024, I began my principalship practicum at Willow Glen. I sought to improve our school's Multilingual Literacy Program and formed a close relationship with our MLL teacher, Michelle Engman. Michelle was committed to supporting multilingual learners at Willow Glen, as well as incorporating projects, activities, and lessons to make our school a true Multilingual School. Michelle and I had BIG plans for the MLL program, one being the addition of books to our library with each secondary language represented at Willow Glen. We wanted each student who spoke another language at home to feel that there were books at Willow Glen that represented their language and culture. That is when we decided to create this project.\r\n\r\nAs our MLL teacher, Michelle had many responsibilities and duties that I did not. Therefore, I created the project and hoped for the best! Our MLL program was growing significantly when, tragically, Michelle was killed by a drunk driver in early December. Not only was this a catastrophic loss to Michelle's family and colleagues, but it also put our MLL progress and goals on hold. At this point, I lost hope in our dream to make Willow Glen a Multilingual community and the project being funded at all. \r\n\r\nAnd then, a miracle occurred: the project was funded!! I truly believe Michelle was working her magic from the great beyond to bring this vision to life. Now, Willow Glen students have access to at least one book in their home language, and the whole school can learn just how amazing other languages can be. Thank you, from both Michelles, for making this a reality.","fullyFundedDate":1739455217531,"projectUrl":"project/books-to-honor-home-languages-and-learn/8863768/","projectTitle":"Books to Honor Home Languages and Learn English","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Boening","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-boening"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37868","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":238,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":18,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":35,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 3","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.6,"schoolId":37868,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Willow Glen Primary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Willow Glen Primary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/st-francis-school-district/willow-glen-primary-school/37868"}
