It has been incredibly helpful and truly meaningful to both myself and my students.\r\n\r\nThe students were so grateful to have a space that felt like home and where their needs were met with care and dignity. Whether it was a quick refresher to brush their hair and put on deodorant before class, asking for snacks when they were hungry, or needing a toothbrush and hygiene items, the resources made a real difference in their daily lives. Most importantly, students felt comfortable enough to trust me and ask for help when they needed it.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were genuinely excited and thankful. Many expressed how appreciated and cared for they felt. The space quickly became somewhere students felt safe, supported, and welcomed.\r\n\r\nOne special moment was seeing students collaborate together to help create a monthly calendar for the counseling space. It gave them ownership, encouraged teamwork, and helped build a stronger sense of community within our school environment.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue using these resources to support students socially and emotionally while also helping them build confidence and feel prepared for the school day. Our counseling space will continue to serve as a supportive environment where students can access both emotional support and basic necessities so they can focus on learning and growing.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping create a positive and caring environment for our students. Your generosity has had a direct impact on their well-being and success.","fullyFundedDate":1751134607270,"projectUrl":"project/a-safe-space-to-grow/9371099/","projectTitle":"A Safe Space to Grow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ibadango","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10040931"},{"teacherId":10248978,"projectId":9827536,"letterContent":"This project honestly meant so much to my students and to me. Our classroom had stations that were worn down and didn't reflect the type of environment I want my students to learn in. With the marble and wood grain contact paper, clear protective covering, LED strip lights, and the tools to apply everything, we were able to completely transform our space together. My students didn't just watch it happen—they were part of the process. They helped remove the old materials, carefully apply the new ones, and take pride in every step. It turned into more than a classroom upgrade—it became a hands-on lesson in professionalism, responsibility, and pride in your workspace.\r\n\r\nThe moment they saw everything come together was honestly special. You could hear it—\"Miss, it looks like a real salon!\" That excitement turned into motivation. Students who would usually rush through cleanup started taking their time. They're wiping down stations, paying attention to details, and holding themselves to a higher standard. The LED lighting even helped them see their work more clearly during services, which boosted their confidence. It may seem like a small change, but for my students, it changed how they show up in the classroom every day.\r\n\r\nNow, we're using this space the way it was meant to be used—as a real training environment. Students are practicing client setups, sanitation, and hands-on services while also learning how to maintain a professional station. The expectation is no longer just \"do the work,\" but \"work like a professional.\" This project didn't just improve how our classroom looks—it changed how my students feel about themselves and their future. Thank you for helping me give them a space they can be proud of.","fullyFundedDate":1767210457779,"projectUrl":"project/salon-ready-spaces-transforming-our-cte/9827536/","projectTitle":"Salon-Ready Spaces: Transforming Our CTE Lab with DIY Upgrades","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chukukelu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10248978"},{"teacherId":10248978,"projectId":9738121,"letterContent":"This project has made an immediate and meaningful difference in my classroom. The earbud translators are helping break down language barriers that once made it difficult for some of my students to fully participate in lessons. With this technology, my Spanish-speaking students can clearly understand instructions, safety guidelines, and career-specific vocabulary in real time. This has allowed them to stay engaged during demonstrations, ask questions with confidence, and complete hands-on tasks more independently. The technology is not replacing learning—it is supporting access, understanding, and equity in a career-focused environment.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is how natural and empowering the translators feel. Instead of waiting for help or feeling unsure, they can immediately understand what is being taught and respond right away. Several students who were previously quiet or hesitant have become more active participants in class discussions and practical work. I've seen students smile, nod in understanding, and even help each other once communication became easier. The confidence boost alone has been powerful.\r\n\r\nThis project has especially impacted my English Language Learners, who now feel seen, supported, and included. One student shared that they feel more comfortable coming to class because they know they won't miss important information. These earbuds are doing more than translating language—they are opening doors to learning, confidence, and career readiness. Thank you for making this possible and for believing in my students' potential.","fullyFundedDate":1760121068415,"projectUrl":"project/breaking-language-barriers-earbud-trans/9738121/","projectTitle":"Breaking Language Barriers: Earbud Translators for Career Readiness","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chukukelu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10248978"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_883","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":548,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":54,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.0,"schoolId":883,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about William Maxwell Career Technical High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"William Maxwell Career Technical High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/william-h-maxwell-high-school/883"}
