The mats, wobble cushions, and lap desks have given my students the ability to move, focus, and work in comfort. The very first day the materials arrived, my students' eyes lit up—they were so excited to try the wobble cushions and test out the lap desks. Many immediately settled into their chosen spots and were able to focus on reading and writing tasks with newfound enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nWe have already put the materials to great use during reading groups and independent work time. Students love using the lap desks during writing activities, spreading out on mats to read with partners, and sitting on wobble cushions for small-group math lessons. One student who often struggled to stay seated during instruction now proudly uses a wobble cushion and is able to concentrate longer without frustration. Another student who needs a quiet, cozy spot for reading has made the mat and lap desk her \"go-to\" learning station, and she is thriving.\r\n\r\nThese resources have truly created a more inclusive and supportive classroom. The next steps for our students are to continue building independence by choosing seating that helps them do their best work and taking ownership of their learning spaces. We are excited to watch them grow academically and socially as they learn in ways that fit their individual needs.","fullyFundedDate":1746785701758,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-for-enhancing-learning/9260676/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating for Enhancing Learning for Special Education Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ashley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9685270"},{"teacherId":9685270,"projectId":9260512,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom library now includes exciting and engaging titles like Dog Man, Pete the Cat, and The Old Lady Who Swallowed.... These books are doing so much more than bringing smiles—they are helping my students grow as readers in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active and joyful. Students practice important skills such as sequencing events, making predictions, recognizing sight words, and building comprehension. For example, with The Old Lady Who Swallowed... books, students work on sequencing by retelling the order of the story events. Pete the Cat allows them to practice phonics and rhyming patterns, while Dog Man introduces them to dialogue, humor, and visual storytelling through graphic novel format.\r\n\r\nOur special education students are not just reading—they are competing! Together, they are working toward a goal of reading 1 million words this school year. So far, they have proudly read over 57,000 words, and every day that number grows. The excitement of the challenge has created a buzz in the classroom, and reading time has become something the students eagerly look forward to.\r\n\r\nOne student, who used to shy away from independent reading, now grabs Dog Man first thing in the morning and is excited to share funny parts with his classmates. Another student has fallen in love with Pete the Cat and often sings the refrains from the stories throughout the day, bringing joy to the entire class.\r\n\r\nYour gift has truly transformed reading into a positive, motivating, and community-building experience. You've helped create not only readers, but children who are discovering the fun and adventure that books can bring.","fullyFundedDate":1746785578329,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-for-reading-for-special/9260512/","projectTitle":"Building a Love for Reading for Special Education Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ashley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9685270"},{"teacherId":9014848,"projectId":9229431,"letterContent":"With your help, we have been able to put new books into our students hands.
