Your donation provided us with a wonderful collection of books that sparked meaningful read-alouds and conversations around emotions, helping our English Language Learners grow their vocabulary and understanding in a safe, supportive environment. The hands-on materials you helped provide—like Play-Doh, Duplos, and stuffed animals (emotion dots)—were invaluable in engaging students and creating opportunities for thoughtful, age-appropriate discussions. Through play and storytelling, students learned how to express their feelings, recognize emotions in others, and build stronger classroom connections. After reading a book together, we made predictions about what would happen when we combined water, milk, and soap with food coloring. The students eagerly participated in swirling the colors with Q-tips to create tie-dye-like art in trays, using the materials provided.\r\nA standout moment was watching the students marvel at the colorful patterns they created. They were fully engaged as they mixed and swirled the colors, discussing their predictions and comparing the outcomes. This hands-on activity not only sparked creativity but also helped them reflect on their initial predictions. The excitement continued as we took pictures of their artwork and they used sentence starters to write descriptions of what they had created. Seeing their pride in their work and their use of new vocabulary was incredibly rewarding.\r\nThe students were thrilled when they saw the materials and couldn't wait to start exploring. Their curiosity was sparked immediately as they asked questions and began guessing what might happen during the activity. Anytime they have the chance to work with materials hands-on, their enthusiasm and engagement skyrocket, and this activity was no exception.","fullyFundedDate":1726707309495,"projectUrl":"project/ell-stem-activity-for-kindergarten/8433664/","projectTitle":"ELL STEM Activity for Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kenney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9560406_orig.jpg?crop=577,577,x2,y2&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727645910833","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9560406"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61515","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":432,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":9,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":79,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":61515,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Willard Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Willard Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/concord-public-school-district/willard-elementary-school/61515"}
