With so many students from around the world at our school, the map theme instantly felt welcoming and inviting—kids naturally gravitate to it and love exploring the different countries and continents. Because the rug is large enough to hold full classes, students can spread out comfortably and still feel like they're part of a shared learning community. It turned an ordinary corner of the room into a cozy, accessible space where students want to be.\r\n\r\nWe use the rug all the time now, and it has truly been a game changer. I can section off the space so students know where to sit and what is not part of the area, which has helped with routines, transitions, and behavior. We use our computers at the carpet, sit together for read-alouds, play learning games, and gather in small groups to talk and share. The rug has helped students treat the space with more care and respect—they see it as a special area for learning and connecting, not just an open piece of floor.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to keep building this space into the heart of our classroom community. We'll continue using the rug for class meetings, partner work, and quiet reading time so that every student has a comfortable place to sit and learn. As students become more familiar with the layout, they're taking more ownership—helping to keep the area tidy, inviting others to join them, and using the space to support one another. Thanks to this resource, our classroom feels more organized, inclusive, and student-centered every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1755725885110,"projectUrl":"project/from-cold-floors-to-explorers/9441373/","projectTitle":"From Cold Floors to Explorers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Owen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10068188"},{"teacherId":9938823,"projectId":9150774,"letterContent":"My students are absolutely loving the materials you purchased, especially the weighted stuffed animals! They are especially useful at independent reading time. The students not only find an audience in their chosen stuffies (they read them!), but because they are weighted, the students also get a feeling of calmness and security. \r\n The books were perfect read-alouds for the start to our year, and we continue to revisit them and refer to them as we deal with regulating emotions and resolving conflicts. You purchased us books, flexible seating options, weighted animals, and fidget tools that really help students focus and learn. In our classroom there are 21 students: all with diverse personalities/interests, home lives, and ability levels. The boxes arriving at our classroom sparked joy right away- it felt like Christmas all over again!\r\n\r\nMy students currently LOVE Stitch and now we have him as a weighted stuffy that helps calm them. I've found that the foot cushions are particularly helpful for wiggly 6/7 years olds, especially those with ADHD. I still plan to lower some tables and use the cushions in place of chairs to offer flexible seating. All of these options allow students some movement/flexibility in how they sit and work. They LOVE IT!\r\n\r\nEVERY teacher loves to have their classroom library stocked with books! The ones purchased through Donor's Choose all are near and dear to my heart because I realize the importance of explicitly teaching students about identifying emotions and appropriate strategies to calm themselves down. The Spot of Calm are a great series to have on hand and use daily in morning meetings. Plus, there are songs that go along with the book and the kids really enjoy those.\r\n\r\nThank you for making such a huge difference in our classroom and environment.
