Your support is invaluable and has a direct, positive impact on my students' daily learning experience.\r\n\r\nThe new carpet has transformed a previously bare area into a cozy and inviting reading corner, providing a comfortable space for students to engage with books and practice their language skills in a relaxed environment. This small change in our physical space has already encouraged more interactive and focused learning.\r\n\r\nThe portable translators are a game-changer. They help bridge communication gaps instantly, allowing students to feel understood and confident while they are still developing their English proficiency. This immediate communication support reduces anxiety and ensures every student can participate fully in classroom activities.\r\n\r\nLastly, the label maker helps us create a more immersive and accessible learning environment. We are labeling various items around the classroom in both English and our students' native languages, turning everyday objects into learning opportunities and strengthening vocabulary acquisition in a fun, tangible way.\r\n\r\nYour generosity helps us create a more inspiring and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and equipped to succeed. It is because of community members like you that we can provide these essential resources and opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and for believing in the potential of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1752851686954,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-find-more-seating-room-in-our-es/9214945/","projectTitle":"Help Us Find More Seating Room in Our ESL Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sanchez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9692930_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743087010132","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9692930"},{"teacherId":3206286,"projectId":9426630,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous contribution to our classroom project. Your kindness has already had a remarkable impact, and I am thrilled to share the positive changes we've witnessed so far. These pens are empowering students, particularly those with disabilities, in ways we couldn't have imagined before.\r\n\r\nThe pens have provided these children with a newfound sense of independence, allowing them to engage more fully and confidently in the general education environment. They no longer feel limited by their challenges; instead, they feel empowered to participate, contribute, and thrive in the classroom. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience to see how something so simple can have such a profound effect on their learning and self-esteem.\r\n\r\nYour support has not only improved their ability to access the curriculum but has also helped create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can feel seen, heard, and valued. This donation has truly made a difference, and I am filled with gratitude for the DonorsChoose community for making this possible. Thank you for your generosity, for believing in these children, and for helping to create a space where all students can feel empowered to succeed. My students are enjoying these STEM projects. \r\n\r\nBefore winter break, they created holiday cards using the Chibitronics LED light circuits. Using watch batteries and a conductive tape, they created a closed circuit that could be opened when desired, and therefore \"turned off.\" This created a real-life use for the circuits we had been studying in science. In addition, they brainstormed and planned an artistic presentation for their circuit, carefully planning what element of their design was going to light up and making sure it was placed in the correct spot. This was a great project that combined STEM, art, and design principles. It was also a wonderful send off to winter break! \r\n\r\nStudents are looking forward to planting our garden after spring break & creating water filters in May.","fullyFundedDate":1731503273778,"projectUrl":"project/stem-projects-for-learning-about-electri/8931124/","projectTitle":"STEM Projects for Learning About Electricity, Water Filtration, & Gardening","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Marcus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2355560_orig.jpg?crop=4160,4160,x1060,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728515726132","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2355560"},{"teacherId":2355560,"projectId":8869678,"letterContent":"We are thrilled to share the remarkable impact your donation of books has had on our students' learning journeys. The \"Who Was?\" series features in-depth information full of visual features in a way children can understand and is filled with background knowledge building information. They love to read these books on their own so they were very excited when the brand new \"Where is?\" books arrived. Students explored places like: the Galapagos Islands, the Grand Canyon, the Great Barrier Reef, Antarctica, Yellowstone, the Serengeti and the Amazon Rainforest. With your support, students immerse themselves in these resources, delving into these natural wonders of the world, learning about the landforms, climate, inhabitants and more! The vibrant imagery and accessible writing in the books captivated their attention and inspired a thirst for knowledge about geography, wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation.\r\n\r\nThey were able to become researchers, pulling information from different chapters in the book, and synthesizing the information. They took careful notes on three topics: all about the landforms and climate, who lives there, and advice to the reader. Students wrote about what future visitors know and how we can protect these amazing natural wonders. They were able to explore the geothermal geysers of Yellowstone, the four layers of the Amazon rainforest, the Transantarctic Mountains of Antarctica and more right from the comfort of our own classroom!\r\n\r\nAfter gathering notes, they began to select compelling quotes from the books that would enhance their writing. They contemplate the best order for arranging the facts and then carefully draft their own paragraphs. Students practiced how to properly cite their quotes as well as drafting compelling introduction paragraphs. Much time was spent discussing what future visitors needed to know and how we can help protect these places both from home and while visiting. After revising and editing, it was finally time for students to publish their final drafts on lined paper. \r\n\r\nThe finished articles were amazing. Many students expressed how proud they are of their work. This project fostered not only academic growth but also a deeper appreciation for the beauty and importance of our natural world. Your generosity made this experience possible, and for that, we are deeply grateful. Thank you for empowering our students to learn, create, and grow through the gift of knowledge.","fullyFundedDate":1729392221928,"projectUrl":"project/informational-books-for-writing-project/8869678/","projectTitle":"Informational Books for Writing Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Marcus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2355560_orig.jpg?crop=4160,4160,x1060,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728515726132","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2355560"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_80702","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":373,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"11.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":92.6,"schoolId":80702,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Whittier Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Whittier Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/teaneck-public-schools/whittier-elementary-school/80702"}
