This has made the fluidity of morning meeting occur in a smoother, but more independent manner. This space provides boundaries as well as easily identifiable spaces for each student. We really appreciate it!\r\nThe addition of a spinning chair and sensory stepping stones have been very beneficial for all of my students. During brain breaks the spinning chair is always an option and there is always a student on it. Sometimes we have to set a timer and give more than one person a turn. I have read several articles that have talked about how a spinning chair aides in regulation and self-control, while also providing core strength. Spinning can calm the vestibular system for students, which can help to improve focus. I have noticed a few students that use the spinning chair several times a day. \r\nWe typically use the stepping stones for a specific reason. All students participate when we have them out. What I love about them is it helps with balance, coordination and strength. They also provide sensory regulation through the different textures.\r\nThese two items have added new ways for my students to regulate or get sensory input. I am always looking for new items that meet the needs of my students and these are definitely two items I would recommend to a general or special education teacher.\r\nThank you for helping me help my students.","fullyFundedDate":1743004517083,"projectUrl":"project/starting-the-new-year-sensory-strong/9019455/","projectTitle":"Starting the New Year Sensory Strong!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Walden","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9834206"},{"teacherId":9834206,"projectId":8978018,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donations. This school year, I have several students diagnosed with ASD and also several students that need a lot of sensory input. The new swing that was purchased through this program has provided just that. It gives them a place to go to for their brain breaks and helps keep them calm and ready to learn. I also have many students that use it before transitioning out of the classroom or after they transition into the classroom.\r\n\r\nI have students that have come from another classroom that has a similar swing. When this swing was hung up they were so excited to see it and couldn't wait to use it. Most students like to swing but I do have a few that love to spin.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students another way to help regulate their emotions. It is an AI app that acts as a tutor for kids who are learning to read. The student reads out loud to the iPad and it helps to correct errors and asks comprehension questions. It also shows videos that helps students make a connection to their learning and extend what they are learning. \r\nWe also use the iPad with our Osmo. It has several different learning games, like words, tangrams, math, etc. The students love exploring on the Osmo, while learning new concepts and practicing skills they have already mastered.\r\nStudents also enjoy using the Apple pen. There are several apps on the iPad that practice tracing and the pen works well with those. Sometimes we just pull up a blank notepad screen and kids practice their red words. There are several ways to use the pen and we love finding new ways.\r\nThe biggest impact it has had on our classroom is independence. Learning on the iPad is something the students can navigate on their own and it gives the teachers in the room time to work with other students. We are loving learning new ways and finding new apps to download.
