I am a Resource Room teacher working with students who have Learning Disabilities and Autism in Kindergarten- Fifth Grade in the city of Detroit, MI. I believe all humans consist of body, mind, emotion and spirit, and that includes children. In addition to academics, we focus on the whole student with attention to Social- Emotional Learning (SEL). Maybe building resilient, strong learners is a bit like home remodeling, requiring attention to many smaller parts to complete an amazing product?!\r\n\r\nOne way to do this, especially with younger children, and children with special needs, is to provide sensory input and movement. This helps mind, body and emotions stay balanced for optimal growth. The equipment purchased with your donation provides this daily in my classroom. Students begin with jumping on the mini-trampoline, then crawl through the nylon tunnel. Movement crossing the left and right side of the body, helps the right and left sides of the brain connect which is essential for learning to read. If students are feeling fidgety or unfocused, they take breaks on the trampoline. The compression hammock swing is calming when students feel overwhelmed. It is soft fabric and feels like a hug, and the swinging or spinning motion is also helpful. The gymnastic rings provide physical input, energizing the large muscles by hanging or pulling up. I have utilized all but the tunnel myself on stressful days. A calm, balanced teacher, is able to bring calm and balance to her students. Thank you for helping us meet the needs of the whole person and impacting our growth at Weston.","fullyFundedDate":1758231539323,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-supports-for-success-helping-al/9524074/","projectTitle":"Sensory Supports for Success: Helping All Students Thrive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. K","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9019656_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754019072984","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9019656"},{"teacherId":10034288,"projectId":9351371,"letterContent":"Thank you for purchasing the musical items for our classroom/school. The students have been so excited to use these in class after they complete their work. This has given them motivation to complete their work so they can play music. My students even like to listen to the others play while doing their assignments. They feel so much more relaxed through the sound and vibration of all of the items. \r\n\r\nOur school does not have a music class, and has not for years.
