They need help with math that is higher than single digit addition or subtraction if they are asked to do it in their heads. These calculators allow them to solve math problems fast and correctly. It has also allowed me to work on their money skills specifically when it comes to shopping and calculating totals of shopping. My students need to be able to learn how to use more than one type of calculator because they know that they may not always have a phone to use. But having a calculator allows them to figure out math problems without the struggle of having to always do it long hand.","fullyFundedDate":1757277243713,"projectUrl":"project/calculating-the-exceptional-way/9392255/","projectTitle":"Calculating the Exceptional Way","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sara Brzycki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8989515"},{"teacherId":9970307,"projectId":9177081,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, my students were able to engage in a powerful, hands-on learning experience about the devastating consequences of Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS). When the Ward Science Shaken Baby Model arrived, my students were immediately curious. After an initial explanation and demonstration, the room grew quiet — the impact of the model's visual and auditory feedback was profound. Students began asking thoughtful questions, connecting what they were seeing with what we had previously discussed in class about infant safety and caregiver stress.\r\n\r\nTo deepen the learning, I invited our school's Student Resource Officer, Officer Thomas, to speak with the class. With over 25 years of experience in criminal investigation with the Pennsylvania State Police — including work on complex, unsolved crimes — Officer Thomas brought a compelling and real-world perspective to the topic. His discussion of actual child abuse cases and the legal consequences of SBS resonated deeply with my students, many of whom plan to become future teachers or childcare professionals.\r\n\r\nThis project sparked meaningful conversations about child safety, caregiver responsibility, and emotional regulation. Next, we'll be connecting this lesson to our unit on infant care and stress management, where students will create public awareness posters and presentations aimed at educating others about SBS prevention. Your contribution made it possible for my students to not only learn but feel the urgency of protecting the most vulnerable — and for that, I can't thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1745847087060,"projectUrl":"project/preventing-shaken-baby-syndrome-a-stem-/9177081/","projectTitle":"Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome: a STEM-Based Learning Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gregorski","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9970307_orig.jpg?crop=2688,2688,x201,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742219161850","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9970307"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91164","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":562,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":83,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":64.3,"schoolId":91164,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Western Wayne High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Western Wayne High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/western-wayne-school-district/western-wayne-high-school/91164"}
