Because of your support, our classroom library now holds 46 more beautiful multicultural picture books that open windows into the lives, traditions, and celebrations of people around the world.\r\n\r\nEach week, we gather for \"Map Book Day\" — our new favorite day of the week — to read a story and locate its country of origin on our classroom map. So far, we've traveled to the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Spain, Mexico, India, and China! Students eagerly make connections to each story, sometimes \"looking through a window\" into a new world and sometimes \"looking in a mirror\" that reflects pieces of their own identities and experiences.\r\n\r\nThese books have sparked meaningful discussions about family, traditions, courage, and kindness. They've also helped us see how much we share in common, even when our cultures and stories look different on the surface. It's been incredibly enriching to watch students' curiosity and empathy grow with each page we turn.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has truly expanded our world. Thank you for believing in the power of stories to build understanding and connection. Because of you, my students are learning to see themselves — and others — with greater appreciation and respect.","fullyFundedDate":1753739067008,"projectUrl":"project/windows-to-the-world-exploring-cultures/9261517/","projectTitle":"Windows to the World: Exploring Cultures Through Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Potter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4102620_orig.jpg?crop=569,569,x64,y543&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699380792982","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4102620"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131947","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":546,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":34,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":88.9,"schoolId":131947,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westbrook Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westbrook Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/roseville-city-school-district/westbrook-elementary-school/131947"}
