The supplies you provided my classroom have helped me to create a more comfortable, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. These supplies are not ones usually funded by my school, but they make a big difference for my students and helping them to connect with one another. I often have small groups of students who sit together and crochet and talk in comfortable chairs in a circle during our Flex Time. It's surprising what types of students return again and again. Several boys have gotten excited about crocheting, which surprised me! Some kids who aren't as excited about the sports options during our school's Flex Time, find a comfortable environment in my classroom. The discussion has been great! The day the keyboards arrived, students were practically bouncing with anticipation as we unboxed them together. Many had never had the chance to play on full-sized, touch-sensitive keyboards before, and they dove right in—experimenting with sounds, figuring out melodies, and exploring music in a hands-on, meaningful way.\r\n\r\nSince their arrival, the keyboards have become a core part of our music classroom. We've been learning popular songs that students choose themselves, giving them a voice in their musical learning and encouraging a deeper connection to the material. One unforgettable moment was watching a student proudly play the intro to their favorite song for the class—something they had taught themselves during independent practice time. That spark of confidence and creativity is exactly what we hoped these instruments would inspire.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're excited to build on this momentum. The success of these early experiences has inspired us to plan a dedicated, multi-week piano unit for next school year. This will allow students to dive deeper into keyboard technique, music reading, and composition. Your donation has truly opened up new possibilities for our music program, and we're so grateful to have your support in creating opportunities that inspire and empower our young musicians.","fullyFundedDate":1735657830806,"projectUrl":"project/jam-out-keyboards-for-empowering-studen/8906561/","projectTitle":"Jam Out! You supported us by giving us a Creality K1 3-D printer and an X-Tool P2 laser cutter. My students have LOVED using both with various projects.\r\n\r\nI teach grades 3-8. In 3rd grade, my students learned to use TinkerCad to design name tags and we printed them with our Creality printer. They gained valuable STEM skills learning about a new piece of technology, as well as the design and engineering process. \r\n\r\nIn grades 4-6 my students used the X-Tool to create engraved \"Dog Tags\" with different designs and saying. We were able to import creations from Canva to engrave with the laser. EVERY student got the opportunity to design and take home a creation they made! \r\n\r\nThank you from the entire West Tisbury School Community! My students were so eager to hear that a new table had been donated to our room, and the excitement when it finally arrived was amazing. Suddenly, students could not wait to practice their spelling!\r\n\r\nThe table is used daily by all of my reading groups, from kindergarten through middle school. Just in one day, it might get used by a kindergartner who is just learning to form letters and can practice on a bright, beautiful surface...all the way through to a 7th grade who is practice to divide long words into syllables and read them fluently. The engagement that I am seeing is incredible.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the new chairs were just what my students needed. Because they're adjustable, I'm now able to have chairs that comfortably fit both a 5 year old and a 13 year old. Students have been thrilled for the change, and as a teacher I appreciate having furniture that helps students do their best learning.\r\n\r\nThe new furniture not only provides a multitude of new ways to work on reading and writing, but it is also simply beautiful. It helps make the classroom feel bright and welcoming, which is also important to my students and me.","fullyFundedDate":1735657822861,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-furniture-to-help-engage-young/8961773/","projectTitle":"Classroom Furniture to Help Engage Young Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Simmons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9404643"},{"teacherId":9404670,"projectId":8961737,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation! My middle school students have loved putting together these lego kits as a supplement their regular math curriculum. It has been great seeing them rip open the packages and dive into putting together the kits – building something with their hands during a time when everything is becoming more digitally focused. Many of these students typically struggle to focus during classwork time but when it's time to work on their legos, they are sitting down quietly with complete attention.\r\n\r\nI've seen groups of students that typically don't work well together collaborate on the more complex kits. They are helping each other, communicating about a confusing step, and discussing strategies about the best way to build. It's been a really great experience for us all! The kids are loving building these kits, and I hope to use this success to get more lego projects in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1735657684522,"projectUrl":"project/bring-back-building-in-the-classroom/8961737/","projectTitle":"Bring Back Building in the Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Annie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9404670"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60538","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":321,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":4,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":60538,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Tisbury Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Tisbury Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/supervisory-union-19/west-tisbury-elementary-school/60538"}
