I often have small groups of students who sit together and crochet and talk in comfortable chairs in a circle during our Flex Time. It's surprising what types of students return again and again. The day the keyboards arrived, students were practically bouncing with anticipation as we unboxed them together. Many had never had the chance to play on full-sized, touch-sensitive keyboards before, and they dove right in—experimenting with sounds, figuring out melodies, and exploring music in a hands-on, meaningful way.\r\n\r\nSince their arrival, the keyboards have become a core part of our music classroom. We've been learning popular songs that students choose themselves, giving them a voice in their musical learning and encouraging a deeper connection to the material. One unforgettable moment was watching a student proudly play the intro to their favorite song for the class—something they had taught themselves during independent practice time. That spark of confidence and creativity is exactly what we hoped these instruments would inspire.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're excited to build on this momentum. The success of these early experiences has inspired us to plan a dedicated, multi-week piano unit for next school year. This will allow students to dive deeper into keyboard technique, music reading, and composition. In 3rd grade, my students learned to use TinkerCad to design name tags and we printed them with our Creality printer. They gained valuable STEM skills learning about a new piece of technology, as well as the design and engineering process. \r\n\r\nIn grades 4-6 my students used the X-Tool to create engraved \"Dog Tags\" with different designs and saying. My students were so eager to hear that a new table had been donated to our room, and the excitement when it finally arrived was amazing. Suddenly, students could not wait to practice their spelling!\r\n\r\nThe table is used daily by all of my reading groups, from kindergarten through middle school. Just in one day, it might get used by a kindergartner who is just learning to form letters and can practice on a bright, beautiful surface...all the way through to a 7th grade who is practice to divide long words into syllables and read them fluently. The engagement that I am seeing is incredible.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the new chairs were just what my students needed. Because they're adjustable, I'm now able to have chairs that comfortably fit both a 5 year old and a 13 year old. Students have been thrilled for the change, and as a teacher I appreciate having furniture that helps students do their best learning.\r\n\r\nThe new furniture not only provides a multitude of new ways to work on reading and writing, but it is also simply beautiful. Many of these students typically struggle to focus during classwork time but when it's time to work on their legos, they are sitting down quietly with complete attention.\r\n\r\nI've seen groups of students that typically don't work well together collaborate on the more complex kits. On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous donation to support the \"Creating a Trauma-Informed Classroom Environment\" initiative. Your kindness and commitment to helping create a positive and nurturing space for students have made a tremendous impact in our classroom, and I cannot thank you enough.\r\n\r\nWith your donation, we have been able to introduce several new tools and resources that have transformed our classroom experience. The lamps you provided have created a much-needed alternative to the harsh overhead fluorescent lights, providing a softer and more calming atmosphere. This simple yet powerful change has made a noticeable difference in reducing sensory overload, allowing students to focus and feel more at ease throughout the day.\r\n\r\nThe laminator has been an invaluable addition, helping me create student charts focused on self-regulation. These charts are a wonderful resource, allowing students to visually engage with strategies that support their emotional well-being, fostering independence and confidence in managing their feelings and actions.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the sensory tiles have proven to be an essential tool for promoting calmness and focus during transitions and unstructured time. Whether students are waiting in line, entering, or exiting the classroom, these tiles provide a grounding sensory experience that helps them stay centered and composed. This small yet impactful change has made transitions smoother and less stressful for everyone.\r\n\r\nYour generous support has helped to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe, supported, and understood. Thank you for being a vital part of this transformation. Your contribution not only enhances their educational experience but also supports their emotional growth, which is crucial to their overall success.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your generosity.
