There was an immediate sense of ownership as they each picked out their individual color. For many, it was the first time they had something that was just for them—a space to keep their belongings and to feel a sense of pride in maintaining their personal items. The bins have really helped create a more organized and structured environment, especially for students who previously had difficulty keeping track of their materials.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the bins, we've incorporated them into our daily routines. For example, each student places their folder, notebook, and any other materials they need for the day in their bin as soon as they arrive. They know that everything they need will be in one place and easy to find. This has been particularly helpful during transitions between activities, as they no longer need to scramble to gather their materials. The color-coding also connects directly to their daily schedules, helping students feel more confident and independent as they navigate the day.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment was when we first set up the play areas. The room dividers allowed us to create separate spaces for different types of activities, such as a reading corner, a building block area, and a dramatic play zone. The students were so excited to see these areas come to life and immediately gravitated toward their favorite spaces. Some students loved the idea of having a quiet, cozy nook for reading, while others dove straight into the building blocks or the dramatic play area, where they could role-play and collaborate with their peers.\r\n\r\nThese play areas have made a big difference in both learning and behavior. For example, the reading corner has become a peaceful sanctuary where students can explore books on their own or with a partner, fostering a love of reading and independent learning. The building block area has encouraged creativity, as students work together to design structures and solve problems. Meanwhile, the dramatic play zone has allowed students to practice social skills like sharing, negotiating, and collaborating as they take on different roles and scenarios.","fullyFundedDate":1726708197194,"projectUrl":"project/a-rainbow-of-excellence/8420548/","projectTitle":"A Rainbow of Excellence!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8923520_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716413203215","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8923520"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37463","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":273,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":70.7,"schoolId":37463,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Side Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Side Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/mauston-school-district/west-side-elementary-school/37463"}
