Your donations have made a great impact in so many positive ways. With the Air Fryer and Skillets, our student now have the ability to learn how to operate devices that they may have access to when living independently. Along with learning how to operate the devices, our students are also learning how to make a variety of recipes using these devices. One of our lessons was for students to learn how to make a dinner and side and have it come out at the same time. The students were able to make a Skillet Chicken in our new skillets and Smashed Potatoes in the Air Fryer. The students have also had the opportunity to do other recipes such as Monkey Bread, Hot Dogs in Sauce, Grilled Cheese and Taco Dogs just to name a few. \r\n\r\nWhile the above is the most noticeable impact to our classroom from the donations, there is a more subtle impact with the donations that is not as visible but just as important. Typically all the cooking in our class has had to be done in our culinary lab, and while our culinary station has great equipment in it, it is a very large space that can resonate sound and has bright lights. A lot of our students that have difficulty with becoming overstimulated with a lot of sensory input, find it difficult to be in the culinary lab. The ability to use the new cooking devices in my classroom has provided many of our students a space that is more quiet and comfortable to work in. This in turn provides our students with the ability to decrease their anxiety and stress when cooking and put more focus on their cooking tasks at hand. \r\n\r\nOn behalf of our current students, future students, and myself, thank you again so much for your donations.","fullyFundedDate":1726673508053,"projectUrl":"project/cooking-for-independent-living/8710979/","projectTitle":"Cooking for Independent Living","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. McNally","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9711516_orig.jpg?crop=1354,1354,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725293496433","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9711516"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104835","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":170,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":41,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":71.1,"schoolId":104835,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Education Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Education Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/-county-run-/west-education-center/104835"}
