I use many types of craft supplies and the students create either a 3D plant or animal cell. \r\n They start with a paper plate and begin to create the organelles( little organs). With the materials from our \"Science in 3D: Exploring Photosynthesis and Respiration\" project, students have been actively building and exploring these complex processes in hands-on, meaningful ways. One of the most powerful moments was when students used the Elodea, Erlenmeyer flasks, and bromothymol blue to observe photosynthesis in action. As they watched the color change and connected it to carbon dioxide and oxygen exchange, you could see their understanding click. They were not just memorizing concepts. They were experiencing them. In addition, students used Model Magic to create 3D models of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, helping them visualize how these processes are connected.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited and immediately eager to start creating and experimenting. The Model Magic quickly became a favorite as students began designing detailed, creative models to represent molecules, chloroplasts, and mitochondria. Many students who typically struggle with abstract concepts were especially engaged because they could physically build and see what they were learning. The hands-on experiments also sparked curiosity and collaboration, with students asking questions, making predictions, and discussing their observations like real scientists.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue to build on this understanding by comparing photosynthesis and cellular respiration and explaining how energy flows through living systems. They will use their models and lab experiences to support their thinking in discussions and written responses. These resources have not only deepened their understanding of important biology concepts, but have also helped build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. My students were incredibly excited when they saw the calming tools and realized they would be part of a \"mental health day\" in science. As we introduced the stress balls, fidget tools, and sensory items, students were eager to try them out and quickly understood their purpose. During our mindfulness session, students practiced deep breathing and reflection while enjoying a warm cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows, which they absolutely loved. The room felt calm and focused, and students were relaxed, engaged, and fully present.\r\n\r\nOne moment that stood out was during our reflection time when several students shared how the tools helped them feel less stressed and more in control of their emotions. Students who sometimes struggle to stay focused were able to regulate themselves and participate more actively in our discussion and follow-up science activities. The sensory tools did not just create a calm environment for the day. They gave students practical strategies they can now use independently whenever they begin to feel overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are continuing to incorporate these mindfulness strategies into our daily classroom routines, especially during challenging lessons, labs, and assessments. Students now have access to these tools as needed and are learning to recognize when to use them to stay focused and ready to learn. Your support has helped create a positive and supportive classroom environment where students feel empowered to manage their stress, take care of themselves, and fully engage in science.
